Need Pro advice AGAIN lol
The trans was just rebuilt using a new GM low planet. Now it whines in 1st gear and reverse. The shop doesn't want to replace it saying its "normal " noise that happens some times when you replace things. Shop also says its a deep reduction so its noisier than other transmissions.
Here is the thing...it was dead quiet in 1st before they replaced this part. What is your thoughts on it? Please if you think it needs setting up some kind of adjustment spill it. LOL Is this a problem in 4l60e's or am i getting a bs story and they put a china piece in?
I tried running it hard in 1st and it doesn't seem to get worse but it whirls-whines everytime.
Thanks

so whining is ok? Its a odd noise, whines but also has a odd extra bit of whir at times. Seems the harder you drive it the quieter it is.At light throttle to medium throttle its there and audible just to the point you notice it over everything else going on.

I had a problem like that with a 700R4. Took the trans out only to find a screw I put in the floor to hold a corner of carpet down was hitting the transmission and transfering noise throughout the whole floor.
Maybe check the mounts and stuff like that.

The shop claims one of the pinion bearing was noisy LOL I'm starting to smell a rat. He purposely stated he bought the part from GM. I'm calling him out on this...monday i'm giving him the choice of fixing it or going to another shop and sending the repair bill. I personally think he bought a chinese knock off and gear pitch is off a little. I've worked on alot auto trans back in the day and i've never heard such a odd noise as this. Its a whining whirring sound that seems to be loudest when the gears are loaded lightly or as it shifts into second. I tried pulling out hard and breaking it but it holds together ok. I'm just guessing its strong but poorly machined, somethiing like that.
He wants to drive it a month then drop the pan and check the magnet.............

It is possible that a bad bearing behind the planet or behind the support is pitted causing an issue. The ring gear normally does not produce a noise however I have seen some wear on the sun gear for the rear planet. I would ask if these pieces were replaced. I have seen the knock off planets produce loose pinion gears. I have never used them and I now wonder if the noise you are hearing is what causes it. I wish you the best of luck. Vince

Or maybe he put a bearing in upside down and isnt admitting to it.

He claims everything looks good, I think its because of a new part mixed with old parts. Its ashame it made so much noise if nothing is really wrong. I can't expect the guy to replace parts that look good. He is replacing it with another gm planet. Maybe it will be quieter now.

Things are not going good.....the fluid is turning black, it doesn't smell burnt just looks black. It shifts ok and works ok, but it feels a little tight when you drive the car like the car is holding back. Ever see black fluid in a trans that was just rebuilt? This is my wifes daily driver, i'm not up on these newer e type transmissions.

It sounds like the transmission may be failing. Fluid that turns black quickly, would indicate excessive heat caused by the clutch packs slipping in the transmission. Is what I have alwasy been told....

Unfortunatley sounds like you have another issue now Sorry to hear of your miss fortune
I was going to mention he should change the torington bearing both at rear of case and under planet, The can become pitted either from rust or a bad engine to chasis ground making and anoying whizzing whining sound , I have seen that a few times in cars years ago and not just GM particulary the poor ground issue.

He is back pedalling now......i took the trans to him with CLEAN fluid and the lugs worn off 2 of the 3-4 clutch plates. He replaced those and the planet because he said one pinion was noisy, i never heard it!. Then it had noise in 1st gear so he replaced the planet and two rear Torrinten bearings. Now it feels too tight while you are driving and the fluid is turning black. He kinda of making light of it and mentioned a long time ago how i used dex 6 might be caising all these problems. I can see an attorney in my future................it doesn't slip and the fluid is not burnt but its turning very black. I KNOW what is coming next....oh you need a convertor.....then the sheeet will be hitting the fan. I go from a very minor trouble to all this crap? DAMIT!
