Were those springs actually recommended for the cam? What lobe profiles were being use, what cam was it exactly. How many miles on the setup? Need more info before you go blaming a spring. If his specs are anything close to your cam, I think those are far from ideal springs.

I have no idea why anyone uses those single beehive comp crap springs. I understand the science behind them and all the hooplah but the proof is in the pudding and I see all sorts of breakage complaints with these. I've never seen ONE single complaint of breakage on Patriot Golds yet and they cost less.... Why everyone doesn't run them boggles my mind

however, to the original poster, why cut it so close? Im running PAC 1218s cuz my cam only has .563 lift. if i was anywhere near .600 i would upgrade. not to mention...why the hell would you buy a spring that breaks all the time? there are so many instances of those 918s breaking. i dont know if its caused by bad install and mismatching or the spring itself, but all the horror stories alone were enough to stray me away from them

Well thats true enough. The factory uses beehives and I dont see many recalls about them so the design itself i suppose must work well and the tech behind the beehive design sure is interesting.
As for PAC? Yeah man a great rep... and the price to match it.
I'm a value guy so I spend where its nec but no more than nec and Patriot have my vote for the best bang for the buck in the spring dept right now.

These are PAC 1218's, $122.95 from SDPC. Good price if you ask me:

Curious, did you measure installed height?
Before blaming the spring, measure the others. Most stock setups come in at around 1.760" (yet everyone assumes its 1.800"). The Comp 918 coil binds at 1.140". Since you had 0.600" lift, that means you were compressing the spring to within 0.020" of coil bind. That setup was living on borrowed time and I am really surprised it went this long if your installed height is as short as I think it may be.
You really need to measure so if that is what happened you don't repeat the error on the next setup.
