Default Now I'm ready for a cam

I finally installed the yank SS4000. I ran a 12.30 @ 107.20 1.60 60'. Mods in sig. I am wanting to know which cam you all recommend for manifolds. I don't want headers just yet so manifolds for now. I would like to run 11's at 112-114mph. Let me know what will work good. I will shift at 6500 rpm give or take.

I still don't see much advantage with headers. I get a lot of crap but I have never been beat mod for mod from headers vs my manifolds. I ran a 12.30 with a 1.60 60' with MANIFOLDs. Thats better then some cam cars. So you guys tell me how much headers help.

well i think most people will agree that not having headers will hold a cams power potential back by a good bit. maybe 25% or more. that is unless it is a cam designed to work with manifolds like thunders. i admit your ET is fantastic and its prolly bc of the badass converter you have. your mph is only a tiny bit better then completely stock auto cars which tells me the converter plus good weather and traction is how you got your 12.3.

YA but at our track bone stock ls1 cars hit 13.8-14.0 At 100-101 mph. I will probably get headers I just don't know how soon. I have gutted cats and a cutout. So right now I would be surprised if I even got 6-8 hp gain from headers and a y. But yes I will get long tubes soon. Just want a cam first. Who knows maybe I will order them at the same time.

Yes they do... For us A4s.
DO HEADERS! I ran a 13.1 with full exhaust and a lid w/ a tune.

So that means my 6-8hp from headers knocked off a little more than half a second?!

Headers before cam or your holding youself back. The cam is gonna need to breathe and that is where the headers come into play

I also did. Prior to stall I had gutted cats, slp muffler, lid, tune and ran a 13.14 @105.5. That is with manifolds. My brother use to have a 02 ta ws6 with same mods except he had headers with true dual. It was a drivers race. Ran the same et's. 13.0-13.30's. But I Will Give it a shot. I will get some long tubes first. Are the pacesetters still the way to go. Or Is there a better brand out there for around 400-500 range.

Prob the best bang header for the buck! TSP makes some headers also but i do not know how much they want for them. TSP also sells Pacesetters.

Ya I'm thinking I might look into the tsp. Since I have a big stall the 1 3/4 primary will help high end horse a little. Maybe I can drop a tenth or so with headers. I will see. Thanks for your guys help.

I bet with LTs, Y-pipe w/ high flow cats, with some aftermarket exhaust & a tune you will get to a 12.1 or better!
Plus that sound!!!

Dude, you'll see more than a Tenth with just headers. It sounds like you have a wednesday car lol. My M6 98 Z-28 was running 12.99-13.1's W/2.0 60's in good weather all night long. I put the true duals and Pacesetters on it and it went the time you see in my Sig and if people call BS I have the timeslips to prove it.

Anyways, in the end its whatever you wanna do

Dude I am so glad I read this thread! I am in the same boat as you, I ran the times in my sig. in the winter and 12.0-12.10 in street trim......many times. I have been debating putting on headers also since the car runs so damn good but I do want to knock off a few tenths, but I am not sure that it will pick up the 2-3 tenths that alot of people say they do. But since there are many more choices now I might just do it. I wanted to do a small cam without headers before but was told the same thing as you. I was also thinking of just spraying the damn thing but have been getting cold feet...ha ha! By the way how do you like your converter? That is where all my et comes from.

I love the converter. I gained about .7-.8 tenths from it. I am still thinking what I want to do. I might just through a ls6 cam in it for the 300 you can pick them up for. That is cam, pushrods and ls6 springs. I'm sure that would pick up more time then the headers. On another note I had a friend that had shorty headers and put lt's on and gained nothing. Also you guys say headers sound good. I have to disagree, with a y pipe it is the most raspy exhaust I think I have ever heard. I think the manifolds sound better then headers with the Y pipe. Just my .02
