3.08 or 3.50's?
Have 3.50's now and thinking about going to 3.08's.
Do you guys think this is a better gear or should I stay with the 3.50's
Anyone with some experience with either gears
please let me know what you think?
car is a full weight TA running twin APS on a stock bottom end
4l80e trans
Moser 9"
26" tall 315 street tires

I am going with 3.54 in dana 60. Thats lowest you can go in dana 60. Might need to wind it up to 6500 maybe 7000 on the odd track run. Not overly worried about it.
Likely will be running 26 inch tires.
We hear how 3.08 help it spool faster by giving it more more load. I know mine with the 408 spools stupid fast now so really don't need faster spool up. I also street drive my car a lot and really don't like 3.08 in town and off boost and you won't be in boost much in town. Unless you like to lose your liscence. At least in my town. Heck my 408 has lots of grunt down low anyway even off boost and even with 9.5 to 1. Also off course with auto and stall you shouldn't have too much trouble spoolin up the turbo compared to say an m6 off the line.
Also in the old boosted lists which are still there if you search but for some reason not stickied anymore there are mnay cars running very fast with 3.73 and even 4.10 gears.
Fact JM did high 9s at near 140 in his 4l80e APS car with 4.10 gears. 4l80e trans and PY3400e stall. Gears don't seem to have hurt him any..But of course you would gear lower to get more mph if you needed it. So maybe these 3.08 guys are trying for 160mph in the 1/4 or something..? As for helping out in the traction department 3.08 might help some in that area but as said I don't like having any gear under 3.42 off boost around town.

I think the one thing missing from this discussion is weather you are running a stick or auto with whatever said gears. An auto wont be as critical to have higher gears "numerically lower" as it loads the turbo just one time then stays spooled.

Auto would be a matter of when do you run out of gear (1/4 mile) or how high do you want to rev your car on the highway. For me (performance minded) I'd go as low as I could and still consider it drivable. Maybe 373's?
