I was in my friend's Z28 w/ the G5X-2
First off, DAMN his car is fast . But while I was riding with him, every now and then when the rpms would come down his whole car would shutter and shake. I am not talking violent or anything but definetly noticeable. I asked what that was and he just shrugged its because I have such a big cam.
What could cause something like that? I am getting a big cam, X1, not as big as the G5X-2 but I don't want my car to shutter like his does. Is this just part of getting a big cam? Or is this something wrong?
Brian

It's all in the tuning. Mine does it too with the TR227. I mail tuned it through them but it could use some more work.

It doesn't really matter how good you can tune. With a cam that big you are going to get that cam surge. Tuning can only do so much. Keep the rpm's up. A steeper gear will make it more driveable.

Cam surge is when you are around 1000 rpm in 1st or 2nd gear and you are trying to keep it smooth but the car will want to start to "surge" or "buck" a bit at lower speeds, low RPM conditions.
It sounds like what you are describing is when he pushes in the clutch and the RPMs drop to 500. That is a tuning issue. What I mentioned above can be tuned pretty much out as well, although that will almost always be there at least a little bit with a big cam.

You might also try messing with the idle adjustment screw. Mine was surging like above when pushing in the clutch after tuning but I was able to fix it with the screw. Now when I let push the clutch in rpms drop to about 1k and when I completely stop rpm's go to 950 which is where the pcm was set.

We have worked out our tunes now to eliminate any surging with our cams. I have an even bigger cam in my car and it drives like a stock car.
Email me a copy of your ls1 edit file, and we can take a look at it.
Thanks
