A buddy of mine went 0.060 over to build his 416ci with no issues what so ever.. Just be sure to have it sonic checked before boring it out.. This will let you know how much you can safely take out.. Good luck..

yes, a sonic tester is a very expensive tool, about $1000 for a cheap one, and I recently built a motor that was 4.070 on an iron block, but this was for LS7 heads. The only problem you will run into is piston and ring availability. Unless you are using LS7 heads and need a 4.070 bore, the extra 15-20hp (max) isnt enough of a difference to make it worth it IMO.

Its funny you mention that fact because its amasing how very few people actuall know that over boring exssesivly nets a very minimal gain if much at all. The only reson to really over bore is to get the cylinder walls True and maintain the best possible piston to wall clearance...
I saw a customers block for a restoration with a standard bore that was so far out of spec It only started to clean up at .030 but had to go .040 total to acheive the proper piston to wall clearance.

the difference between a 408 and 416......its a coin toss at the end of the day...there are just as many 408s making more hp then 416 due to cam and head choice....i would stay safe stick with the 408 and optimize that set up...

I also agree!! I think most people don't realize that the block in a since is dumn. It's the heads, intake and the cam that are going to make all the power. With LS1's I've seen 347ci motors make more power than a 383ci motor due to cam optimization, better flowing intake and a better set of flowing heads. Remember, no matter what CI motor you build. Get a good set of heads like Trick Flow, ETP, AFR etc and get a cam cut to optimize your setup.
