Default '00 Trans-Am, 190,000 miles

I stopped today with my father and looked at a 1998 Pontiac Trans-Am. It was black, had some fugly 17" centerlines, and some stereo stuff(subs blah blah). The body was in good shape though, I didn't see anything that looked as if it had been wrecked/repaired. Downside though was that it had 190k on it. A plus was that it was a 6-speed.

Anyways down to the big question, they were asking 4,900. We figure we could get them down to 4000 atleast or less. Would it be worth it though? Didn't drive it today, so I know I've got to consider that. I figure if I got it, I would just pull the motor and do a mild head & cam setup or something, since I will still have my Z28 to DD. Thoughts on price?

Edit: Forgot to mention it is all stock performance wise. That's how I prefer it though.

Update/2nd Edit: Drove it today. Felt fine, oil psi never dropped below 40 for the whole 15 or so minutes we had it running. Does have a some sort of belt squeal or pulley noise.(Thinking it might be the idler). Does need a little more TLC than I previously thought. Also, found out it's a '98 not a '00. I'm going to think a little more on it. Might go back and drive it again in a few days and get a carfax on it.

Thanks for the reply. I figured 4,000 would be about right with that mileage(super high :O). I looked on KBB, and it had it at like 8,000 lol. Anyone else?

dont bro, any minute now that engine is going to break a connecting rod and make a hole in your block. if you are planning on swapping it out soon then its a very good deal.

Why is that? You know the car personally?

I saw a 98 z28 the other day with 260,000 on the stock everything except clutch. Ran hard and didn't burn oil.

Yeah, if I end up getting it I plan on tearing it down pretty much asap. Right now I'm just trying to decide what route I would take with it; n2o sleeper or forced induction.

My car has 147K miles. It runs better than most cars no matter what the miles.

The engine is a 550hp 383 though. Does that make a dif?
