Default 2002 ls1 coolant odor

Wasn't sure where to post this on the forum, so I am posting here.

About a month ago I started noticing the distinct odor of coolant. It wasn't often and nothing visible. Well, one afternoon after sitting in the traffic I parked my car and noticed the overflow of coolant dripping from the left handside of my car, just under the radiator. I popped the hood and noticed that it was coming from the overflow hose that comes out from under the cap. I allowed the car to cool, checked the level and it was fine/full, however I noticed flakes in the coolant, so I had the system flushed the next day. I still noticed the smell and it has been a couple of weeks. The coolant level is still the same and the temp doesn't go above 210 at the hottest.

Any ideas?

Micah

change your radiator cap, it can allow the steam to escape without much loss of coolant. when is the last time you changed your cap?

You could have a hole in the hose? If the radiator cap wasn't sealing you would see more coolant than just a drip.

I thought about this too. The car is stock, and I have only had it a little more than a year now, so I am going to look into that.

Well, it was getting bad this morning so I had a shop look at it. I couldn't get the time right away, because I am getting ready to deploy and it turned out to be the water pump was leaking by. That hit the wallet pretty good.

Well, I am in Hawaii, so prices are a bit inflated. The price for the pump was $265. I am certain you can find it on the mainland for less.
