Default motor plate/engine location

My question is how do i know where to place the motor plate? I am putting together a 406 sbc in a 97 camaro and am not sure where the engine sits front to back in the car. I have not bought the plate yet, so would there be directions that come along with it? Sorry if this is a dumb question but i have access to all tools and equipment to put my car together. Thanks guys.

well... the stock lt1 motor mount will bolt up with only 2 of the three holes on the block....so im going to put in a sbc with the factory mounts then make the plate to bolt the motor in the same spots as it sits...then remove the mounts....easy

I have the plates in stock and they are cut to fit your car. http://www.madmanandcoracing.com/sho...aspx?itemid=16

The way I install them is bolt the trans in the crossmember and then install the front plates.

I thought using the tranny would probably be the way to go. I am trying to mock up the engine so that i can trim the cowl the way i want it. What do you think about a mid plate? Is there more stress on the trans because of no motor mounts?
