Emissions in PA
I've done a little searching tonight and haven't found a clear-cut answer. I applied to a school in Pennsylvania and I'm looking to relocate pretty soon to the Scranton/Wilkes-barre area. How are the emissions tests there? My AIR, EGR and cats got ditched when I added longtubes. Any input on what I'll be looking at when the time comes?

PA only does sniff tests for cars older than 1996. Any cars 96 and up just get a computer check where your emissions/evap systems need to read "Ready." As long as you have the necessary codes tuned out, you should be fine. Some shops in my area would notice the missing cats and fail you though. That depends on where you're at, and someone here can probably point you to a shop that will overlook the cats...or lack thereof...

Yes there is a visual inspection. Also if you drive < 5k per year, you are exempt. I'm sure we can find you a place that has impaired vision though.
BTW, check out the site in my sig if you are interested in local car clubs.

As I learned from my inspection guy, the 5K and less miles per year does not apply to things such as cats. Checking for cats and other emissions equipment is part of the visual inspection.

I was getting nervous thinking my offroad Y and trashed EGR was going to give me problems. I appreciate the input guys. Seem to be a bunch of cool folks up that way.

In counties that don't do emission testing they still must do the visuall that was done before emissions started. How ever I know that an exempt car DOES not get a visual. Also a car that gets an OBD2 scan does not get a visual either. And that is the way the law reads. Trust me I know I am an inspector.

It is covered in the FAQ PDFs on that site. Look at one of the counties that has emissions testing and it details what vehicles are exempt. If you live in a county without emissions testing, there is no mileage exemption.

No emissions in Schuylkill County.
I'd imagine just visual and computer checks in the WB/Scranton area. Also, will your car be registered/insured at the new address? If not, then it only matters where it's legally registered I believe.
So, if I am from Schuylkill, and I get my car inspected in Berks County, they can do visual but I don't need emissions to pass. I've done it a couple of times now. 1 sticker = win.
