standard oil consumption for aftermarket Cam cars
Just wondering how much oil you guys are going through? Just changed my oil the other day and was almost 3 quarts low only 2200 miles after my cam swap and last oil change. I know now to keep a better eye on it. Sound right to you guys?

Was your car burning oil before your cam swap? Just because you changed the cam does not mean your engine should start sucking down oil. That's alot of oil to be burning in 2200 miles!!!!

Scoobie,
my car did the exact same thing, it chewed up the oil and spat it out before I realized. With about 2100 miles on since the previous oil change, a low oil light came on, something that has never ever happened again... since then I have started monitoring oil consumption @ about 1500 miles and possible top-off if the oil color is right.. otherwise time for new oil

At my last 3K oil change, I was full - no noticiable oil loss/burn....
I installed an LS6 valley cover and large oil catch can. My catch can has less than a teaspoon of crankcase oil in the bottom since the swap about 4K miles ago...
My headers are LTs, my heads are ported and I have a mild cam 220/220, 564/564, 112....
So, I dont have an oil issue; My car won't pass New York emmissions inspection, however....too much hydro carbons...
....so everyone has problems....

My engine was using about one quart every 1200 miles, then did the LS6 PCV and that cut it half; but that's still high oil consumption. I installed the Sears air-water separator a 500 miles ago, but haven't seen a single drop of oil in it, so I guess it's going past the rings. I believe driving style has something to do with it also . . .

Mine uses very little oil so I will keep eye on it after the camshaft goes in. Need to pull the TB on the car and see if the oil is in the intake. If it is we can install a catch can in line to stop the majority of it. If not, it is getting by the rings. Which would not be good.

I seem to use about 1/2 quart in 800-1000 miles depending on driving habits. My car tends to see WOT at least a couple times every drive, and with my stall and 3.23s it sees higher than the normal M6 or stock stall auto cruising rpms constantly. Mine is mostly through the PCV though, my intake always has oil in it. I'm working on a catch can install right now.
I can clean the back of my TB blade and within 100 miles it will have oil residue again....

Well, i did switch to royal purple oil, my oil change light came on today..hmmm, even with clean oil in it. Something is up, need to find out. It isnt leaking any oil though, i check my driveway, no spots. It did see some pretty rough duty after the cam swap. I mean, everyone in town got a WOT blast, 3 trips to the track and 5 dyno pulls. Id say that didnt help. Ive calmed down a lot now though, see if that helps.

I know I've beat on it quite a bit tuning it so that could be it. After the new has wore off the camshaft and your driving habits get back to normal the oil consumption will go down I'm sure.
