I knew it was only a matter of time. That means you can hopefully by a G8 for cheap in a year or so

The last thing I want is a daily driver I have trouble finding parts for. I wonder if they at least have some contingency to stock up on parts at all before totally shutting down production? I doubt that's in the budget.

Ah well, either it will really help or really hurt the value of my Trans Am, lol. Not that it's anything close to an investment, but I'm sure there will always be 'that' buyer that really wants one.....still only 13,xxx miles on my baby!

Good, Pontiac was beat to hell and back in these past few years....the Good pontiac died long ago back in 2002 was the last straw. While the GTO was a good car...styling killed it quickly...and the G8 came out at a bad time. Personally I would love to see the G8 come to chevy as a Impala SS or Lumina SS...something...a dam good car that would suck to see it gone.

These are made by GM and not just Pontiac. There will still be parts available for a while. Look at Oldsmobile, they've been shut down for 8+ years and you can still walk into any Chevy/GMC dealership parts depot and get parts for your car. Pissed though as I was really hoping GM would bite the bullett and bring back the Trans Am. Sucks!!!!

Just because Pontiac is gone doesn't mean Chevy won't absorb some of the name plates of Pontiac.

Yup, but do you really see Chevy producing a Camaro and Firebird - not gonna happen.

WIth how little they change on some models, it would be very easy for them to transition some name plates just by changing a grill & some badging....the problem is the assembly plants are likely different & that's probably what they are targeting to close. Honestly I hate all the redundant model sharing. The Trailblazer for example has variants by almost all the GM lines, lol. Having such a variety is good in a way, but instead of making so many variants, I think they would be better served focusing on making one line & putting more effort into making them better/more efficient.

Umm....no. The G8 and that overseas Lumina are both Holden products, not Chevrolet's.

I really am bothered by this decision. It's more a push from the Obama Auto Task Force than GM's call. Dumb move, considering Pontiac is their 3rd highest selling division - well above Buick, Hummer, and Saturn. But, Buick stays because 1 billion Chinese like Buicks (strange?!?!). They were going to keep Pontiac in a smaller, specialized category. But, I guess 'Bama didn't like that.

Does anyone know how they will handle warranty issues in a situation like this? Will you just have to go to a Chevrolet Dealer?

Yeah...the Pontiac website says any GM Dealer will handle warranty and parts.

I was just cruising around tonight and swung in for giggles at Ron Carter hoping to maybe see if they had any Camaros yet...nope...but they had a sexy black G8 GXP. That is one awesome looking 4-door. Maybe they'll come up with something for it in the chevy lineup.

I wouldn't mind banishing the Camaro to weekend duty and picking up one of those for baby hauling during the week...because I love crawling in the back seat of the camaro to buckle the kid in everyday.
