Default Where to buy ammo?

So people seemed to get paranoid as soon as Obama took office but I was not concerned. I also had a decent supply of ammunition that I thought would last me a while.

Well here I am today and I am dumbfounded. Why can I not find ammo anywhere including online?? Are people still paranoid and are continuing to stock up or are there restrictions??

I am in need of some 9mm ammo and would be much obliged if someone can point me in the right direction whether it be from a shop around San Antonio or an online vendor.

Thank you!

PS. While I have this thread full of gun experts, anyone have a recommendation for a good cheap shotgun that I can use for fun and home defense (mostly just for fun)? preferably 12 gauge =)

My friend, goggle is the best place for the answer. It is not just one reason why there are ammo shortages.

1. Obama
2. US told the Russians no more cheap ammo from the mother land
3. Future tax on ammo to make sure nobody can afford to buy and use it, so people buy the **** out of it.
4. Police and Military have contracts so they get the nipple first

You can always find ammo on gunbroker.com website.

Mossberg 500A Shotgun. Comes with 2 barrels 18 inch (self-defense) and 28.5 inch (bird and clay). Bought mine 5 years ago through Big 5 Sporting guns for $220 and it is worth every penny. Literally takes 10 seconds to change barrels and I remove the plug when it is in the house for self defense (holds 5 +1). Never had a single problem and it is a very good shooting gun. Does have a little more recoil than my Remington 870 though. I am thinking about adding a pistol grip to the shoulder stock.

Shotgun ammo is plentiful.

You think it is hard finding 9mm ammo? I can go to Gander Mtn and get that. I have an AR15 chambered 6.8 Rem SPC, try finding that at a decent price. Honestly, 6.8 is easy to find compared to 5.56. I also have a USP chambered in .40 S&W. Again, it is hard to find, but it cost more for that pistol ammo than for my 6.8. GL finding a good deal on anything. Gunbroker is the way to go for finding hard to get ammo. But Cabela's and Bass Pro online tend to have some selection of the common rounds, even if it is the cheap target stuff.

Look for the next gun show nearby and you should be able to get both. I just picked up a Mossberg Persuader 18.5" Pistol Grip 12 gauge and some 000 buck in Dallas. Just the sound of that action is a powerful attitude changer.

From what Ive heard, keep checking local Academy/Walmarts for when they get their shipments. They should still be getting stuff in, it just sells out immediately

Nope they constantly have empty shelves.

OP: You could get the remington 870. One of the best shotguns for the money.

I have 4 pallets of .40 S&W. I special ordered it a while ago through a friend who works at a gun store. No, I can't help you out.

I see 9mm ammo everywhere. In fact, 9mm and 38special are the only rounds I see at wal mart, carter country, cabelas...

The cabelas in Kyle, TX has plenty of all the calibers listed above. I was there last week and they had 5-6 cases of .223

As far as shotguns go, i'm rocking the 870 with some tactical upgrades.

Go to Academy and ask them when there truck comes in with ammo. Then show up that day and buy as much as you can. 9mm ammo is on usually there. .40 cal is hard to find along with .45. This is the main reason I bought a 9mm last year. You can find ammo anywhere. Oh, and for the shotgun, remington 870 here. I forgot how many were produced, somewhere around 10 million. The best gun on the market. I bought mine in great shape at a pawn shop for 150 bucks. New they are around 250. Mossberg maverick is a good cheap shotgun also. New around 150-175.

I went to academy here in pearland and bass pro for days, sold out of .40 s&w.

Then one day i went to academy and asked the an behind the counter if they were out as i didnt see any on the shelf. He then treats me something like a bootleg drug dealer, and softly whispers " i just got some in", so he asks how many boxes of 50 i want, so when i respond with 4 he tells me they can only sell me 2 to be fair.

There is a warehouse out in waller that my inlaws get it from. The crap is buying bought in bulk, I rem I went to a gun show with them and they bought 20,000 rounds of 9mm ammo 3 AR-15 3 9mm Ruger's. I sure know where I am going when things jump off.

I have really thought about reloading on the side. Something tells me that its going to be very very profitable shortly.

Ammo to go I think is the one in Waller. I think they have been sold out lately. Reloading would be a good idea, but you cant buy primers right now. THe Academy off 288 in Pearland has 9mm ammo quite often. I went there on a Friday a couple weeks ago and got several boxes of 9mm.

Academy bro! And the shotgun you want is a Mossberg model 590. 18inch barrell with a heat shield. bayonette attachment, holds 8 in the barrell and 1 in the chamber. I have one and its great. I've had it for 11 years now and its still around kicking!!!
