Best Tires to Buy
Looking to getting new Tires on the back, size 275/40-18's...not really looking to spend any more then $200 per tire(less if possible) My car is basically stock and really only driven on the weekend(less then 5k a year). Looking for a tire that is going to grip well but not kill my wallet...Was looking into the Nitto 555 EP's...is there any other tires i should look into or are those my best bet? if so where is the cheapest place i could get them from

I just bought a set of General Exclaim UHP tires from the TireRack and I couldn't be happier with them! They got great reviews and I took a chance with them and like them. I went with 275/35/18 for $168 each (+ a $50 Visa gift card). 275/40/18's are only $154 each. However, if you want CHEAP, the Hankook Ventus S1 evo is on clearance for $109 each right now. But I know NOTHING about it.

any reason you are getting 275/40/18 over 275/35/18??? The latter will keep you with a stock height tire. BFG g-Force Sports are under $200 and they have been a great tire for me so far.

+1 Same deal took a chance and love them. Always used Fusions before. Better wear and traction for the money.

245/50/16(stock size)=275/40/17(stock size)=275/35/18=25.6"
275/40/18=26.66" (too tall in my opinion)

the wheels themselves don't really care what size tire you put on them, as long as the inner diameter matches, but if you put a taller or shorter tire than what came on the car stock (and by taller/shorter, i mean overall tire height, not sidewall height), it's gonna screw with your speedometer.

[QUOTE=Breathing Fire;11532022] I was looking at these tires myself.
Ever take them to the strip? How do they hook? Or how do they hook on the street, for that matter?
Thanks!

then I guess you could go with 245/45/17 front and 275/40/18 in the rear. The 17/18 combo is harder to work with since you want to have a 1" taller tire in the rear to keep the sidewall width consistent with the front but I hear that a 1" difference in front and rear tires will confuse the ABS.

245/45/17 front
275/35/18 rear
If you want a slightly taller tire (~26") go with
255/45/17 front
285/35/18 rear
The latter is what I went with for my 2000 vette rims. (17x8.5 - 18x9.5)
Went with a slightly wider setup because I am known for dragging my tires against curbs and wanted to avoid rim damage.
