Default Best Tires to Buy

Looking to getting new Tires on the back, size 275/40-18's...not really looking to spend any more then $200 per tire(less if possible) My car is basically stock and really only driven on the weekend(less then 5k a year). Looking for a tire that is going to grip well but not kill my wallet...Was looking into the Nitto 555 EP's...is there any other tires i should look into or are those my best bet? if so where is the cheapest place i could get them from

NT-05, but I am not sure what the pricing is on them.. I have NT-01's which ran about $240 but that is a race tire.

I just bought a set of General Exclaim UHP tires from the TireRack and I couldn't be happier with them! They got great reviews and I took a chance with them and like them. I went with 275/35/18 for $168 each (+ a $50 Visa gift card). 275/40/18's are only $154 each. However, if you want CHEAP, the Hankook Ventus S1 evo is on clearance for $109 each right now. But I know NOTHING about it.

any reason you are getting 275/40/18 over 275/35/18??? The latter will keep you with a stock height tire. BFG g-Force Sports are under $200 and they have been a great tire for me so far.

i can put 2 put 275/35/18's with no problems? i just know the stock size is 275/40/18 so i figured i would keep them the same...also does anyone have any experience with the sumitomo's? i have no problems spending 190 each for the Nittos cuz i know they are a good tire but if the sumitomo's are just as good and cheaper ill get those

+1 Same deal took a chance and love them. Always used Fusions before. Better wear and traction for the money.

Camaro's never came with 18 rims so there is no "stock size" but if you want to keep your tire height the same as stock you should use 275/35/18

245/50/16(stock size)=275/40/17(stock size)=275/35/18=25.6"
275/40/18=26.66" (too tall in my opinion)

what front tire size are you running and are you running a 17/18 combo? That will help me help you figure out the best tire size.

+1. Not sure on the price of these for the size you need, but they are excellent tires.

the car that the wheels came off of isn't what determines the size tire you need.....it's the car that it's going onto that matters.

the wheels themselves don't really care what size tire you put on them, as long as the inner diameter matches, but if you put a taller or shorter tire than what came on the car stock (and by taller/shorter, i mean overall tire height, not sidewall height), it's gonna screw with your speedometer.

I was looking at these tires myself.

Ever take them to the strip? How do they hook? Or how do they hook on the street, for that matter?

Thanks!

I've had sumi's and they were fine. My buddy just put the htrz+ on his evo x and loves em. I think 275/40's look funny on a 18" wheel, had em before and the sidewall is way too tall. Need 35's to look right.

then I guess you could go with 245/45/17 front and 275/40/18 in the rear. The 17/18 combo is harder to work with since you want to have a 1" taller tire in the rear to keep the sidewall width consistent with the front but I hear that a 1" difference in front and rear tires will confuse the ABS.

245/45/17 front
275/35/18 rear

If you want a slightly taller tire (~26") go with

255/45/17 front
285/35/18 rear

The latter is what I went with for my 2000 vette rims. (17x8.5 - 18x9.5)
Went with a slightly wider setup because I am known for dragging my tires against curbs and wanted to avoid rim damage.
