Will a 236/236/.550/111 cam work-stock headed bolt on car? re-using left over parts
I know the cam stuff has been beat to death, but I have not seen any info on the exact cam I have. Reason I am asking is because I already have this one laying around and I don't want to have to buy another one IF it will work. I am building a car for road racing in a limited class so for now it will have stock cubes and stock heads. It will have headers and true duals with and X and bullets. The car will be gutted and also have an alum flywheel, stock 3.42s
This cam worked nice in my 383 it came out of, but I don't know if it will be too big for a stock cube motor. It had a very broad tq curve. Operating range only needs to be between 3500rpm and up. It will be a track only car so I don't care if it has to idle at 1200 to stay running.
I am sure there are better ones out there, but since I already have this one and won't be using it for anything else.... I would like to see if it would work and save some $$$.
I also have the stock cam out of my 06 GTO. I know it will be better than stock, but not sure if it would make more usable power than the 236 cam.

the 236 will be fine.
don't even have to worry about PTV issues since the lift is low.
it will idle rough, and be a little bit doggy down low, but as you stated...upper rpms is where you need it...and that's where it will be.
i say go for it.
might be worth getting some 1.8 rockers to boost the lift and take advantage of the flow capabilities of the ls1

I don't want more lift since it will be buzzing high rpm for 10+ minutes straight. I don't want to change valve springs every couple months. I will be reusing my couple month old partiot gold springs.
I am curious where it would make power and if it would be a broad or peaky power/tq curve?????

guys in my class will call me out if they see 243s. the point hit i get for them as stock casting, that are not original is the same as ported and polished ones. Therefore I will just run stock ones for now. The rules in the group I run in (Midwestern Council of sports car clubs) are pretty crappy. you only get 17 pts max of mods and then you go to unlimited race class. I ran my 3783# race weight car in that class for the last few years. took the class championship twice for the the season, but now there are some big dollar gutted race cars. CTS-V (all carbon fiber body with 402), factory 5 autocross prepped cobra .... race weight 2200#s... C6 Z06 with heads and cam.... Too much was done to my other car to de mod and only has 19k miles, so I don't want to gut it.
