Default Cam only-whats allowed?

Im looking to stay cam only see how far I can go. My question is where does the line get crossed. Milled heads allowed? Flycut piston?

it depends on what you feel comfortable with, and how comfortable you feel with lying to yourself... tech cam only means cam only- no nothing, nada, zilch

now to be safe you flycut pistons for clearance, add springs, retainers, lifters, pushrods, timing chain, so on and so forth

in short- id say the line is when you touch a tool to the head that isnt to replace/ repair a part on that head

no mill not gasket changes only change the valve springs for the bigger cam. touch nothing else.

as far as flycuting... guess it depends on the person you talk to. i dont have a problem with it i guess

I agree. Im cam only now but thinking about going with a different cam which would involve notching the pistons. I wanna leave the heads stock unmilled and unported with stock gasket.

Ok, I get the engine part of the equation. How about engine swaps? Is cam only just for the fourth gen Camaros and Firebirds? Can you have a LS motor in a third gen Camaro and still set the record? Just curious because my car will be ready shortly and I was going to go for the record. The motor is the last piece so, if I can't be a contender for a cam only record, I will put it together a little differently. Thanks, Mike.

i consider the record for lSx's to be in car that come stock in LSxs... like an ls2 in a gto, ls1 in a camaro, ls6 in a vette so on so forth... once you change the car its not a record for the fastest cam only ls1, its the fastest cam only ls1 in a 3rd gen..... or the cam only lists would be filled with rx7s and miatas

the way i feel about it. what should be allowed.
stock heads untouched except for springs for increased valve lift
fly cut pistons
rod bolts
timing chain and oil pump

as long as you have stock crank, stock rods, stock pistons and untouched heads
youshould be fair game

Just curious how big of a cam are you looking to put in there if its going to require flycutting ? Is your vette a zo6 i forget ? I believe ls1joe( i think thats his name) went to a bigger cam and flycut the pistons hes #2 all time. Milling the heads isnt allowed. Also I think a stock head gasket it required to keep the compression the same as stock.

Stick a a untouched motor, which is no touching of heads or gaskets or rod bolts, just a cam and the needed valve train, stick it on a rail car and you have your record that will last forever, well until the next rail car comes along.

Looking at the cam-only list... stock long block, with whatever accessories it takes to run the cam(springs, rockers, flycutting). Definately a cool little catergory to build for. I'm building one myself.

My cam only car is pretty much a racecar with a stock bottom end/cylinder head motor. Single plane intake, dominator tb, 3 speed trans, ect.
