Default My caliper bolt keeps falling out

I'm on the way to the track the other day and I here this clunking every time I hit a bump. Finally I go to pull stop and my front tire locks up. I get it off the road and pull the tire to find my top caliper bolt fell out and the caliper wedged in the wheel. I got a lift to the parts store and replaced the bolt. On the way home from the track it happened again. I know I didn't get the bolt real tight with a crescent wrench but I would have though it would last more then 30 miles without falling out. Any ideas why this would start all of a sudden. I put locktite on the bolt this time.

caliper bolt of the frame bolt where the pads ride?

The frame bolts are actually torque to yield. Technically, they should be replaced each time they are removed, just like the head bolts.

However, I don't do that. I do use a dab of Loctite, though. I don't have a clue what the actual torque is supposed to be. However, the bolt is big and the threads are cast iron. So I tighten the **** out of it.

The bolt that actually holds the caliper to the hub.

I know I'm not going to explain this to well but here it goes, did you use a wrench ( 16mm I think ) on the nut ( or what ever it's called ) inside the rubber boot cover while tightening the caliper bolt?

Are you sure they're TTY bolts? They only require like 23 ft*lbs. And yeah you have to make sure you have a wrench on the guide pin to keep it from spinning. I torque it to spec with a dab of blue loctite, and haven't had any problems thus far.

The frame bolts are TTY. They torque at something like 75-80 ft/lbs. The frame bolts to the spindle ... the caliper bolts to the frame.

The caliper bolts are a low torque, like 20 ft/lbs.

I quit measuring a long time ago and just go by feel, now. Hey, if some of you can feel a 5 horse difference in a 400hp car, in the seat of your pants, then I can feel 75 ft/lbs, +/- 5 lbs.

He replied with this ...

The bolt that actually holds the caliper to the hub.
so I still don't know which bolts he is referring to.

Hey blur ... did it require a 12mm wrench or 15 mm wrench? That should clarify.

It's 15mm. It's not the one that needs a backup wrench.

Frame bolts or abutment bracket bolts (it's what GM calls it, not me). Attaches to the knuckle. TTY.

Use loctite.

Ok, sorry I was a bit confused if he was discussing the frame bolts or the caliper bolts.
