Cam only LT1 makes 396 HP, record?
So there was a dyno day south of Tampa Florida and a guy who says he has a cam only made 396 RWHP. Wow, I'm impressed! My 396 made the same HP. Is this a record for LT1's?

It is stock ci, but there is some porting work on the heads. There just aren't many people who setup those cars correctly. Phil did research, and TONS of it. It paid off it seems like.
Where did you get this information from?
The car will be getting a H/C 383 in the near future, but it currently has stock heads.

i wouldnt call BS on the guy without letting him explain the combo. he isnt a shop, but jsut a regular dude. i am on the N2S site that this info was linked and he is a local mustang racer that built that LT1 cam only combo for his wife.
i have personally never seen a 400 rwhp cam only LT1 (talking about stock heads and bottom end). this would be the first. its kind of crazy considering most cammed lt1s i see make only 330 or so rwhp at best and many H/C/I LT1 cars make about 350-360 rwhp with street combos.
if this is not a freek combo, i would like to see what my LT1 brothers have been doing since i stopped paying attention to the LT1 game.

HEADS/cam cars put down that number fairly often. You said the heads are worked.
Guys have put down big but unusable numbers cam only, If a cam peaks at 6500 you can hit that peak with a stock shortblock on the dyno but chances of actually being able to effectively and reliably use it at the track are slim.
A good hydraulic roller 383 with ported LT1 heads should be higher, one company has repeatedly deliver 44Xrwhp with such a setup through an automatic.
A solid roller stroker with ported LT1 heads can top 500rwhp.
The average is brought WAY down by the folks who think they know more, or that think they can "save" money buying "equivalent" parts that are nowhere near equivalent.

btw, i love the word "research" that is so prevalent to these internet car boards. if i see someone use that word, it instantly clues me in what i am dealing with. someone that reads and doesnt actually RACE or BUILD cars. there is a HUGE difference b/w reading and doing.
sure there are exceptions, but i base this on my own "research" lol
