Is there a way to tell if I need one, or is it somthing that is just good to do??

You can look at the back of the blade on your TB. Plus if you seem to be loosing a lot of oil but you don't leak any...

A bunch of companies make good ones. Just don't get an ebay one they're crap. Do some searching on here to get an idea of what brand you'd prefer.

I'm curious about this as well. I actually came to the "Dark Side" from a 98 Eclipse GSX. I now own a 2000 TA. In my Eclipse I had a Greddy that I absolutely LOVED! Is it sacrilege to put an import part on American Muscle? What are the options?

Pull off the TB and check the intake for oil - if there is oil in there you need a catch can.

Is there a rubber O-ring on the TB or do I need to buy a new gasket before I pull it off??

pcv catchs work great if your car burns a lot of oil. if you plan on running a cam i would definitely get one.

you can either buy one for an outrageous price, or you can make one yourself for about $20 with 2 feet of 3/8 fuel line and an air compressor water separator.

i did some searching on here, i cant find the link i used. but all you need to do is go to autozone/kragen/napa and get about 2ft of 3/8 fuel line, then to a hardware store for an air separator and get 2 3/8 fittings.

i cut one length of the fuel line about 6 inches and then left the rest for the other side. screw in the fittings and slide the fuel line over them.

then disconnect the line that runs from you pcv valve to your tb and replace with your catch can setup! might have to cut the tubing a little bit more if you have some left over but you get the idea.

i priced it out cuz i was making some for friends of mine and it cost me about $20 for everything.

That home made one doesn't work worth a ****. The in and out of the glass part is the same hole. So most of the air bypasses that thing anyway and doesn't get caught in it at all.

Rubber and three bolts. Pull the lid and maf as a unit, and then pull the TB.

over priced IMO, but if you want your engine bay to look nicer it does the job!

same concept as the home depot one.
