Default Found a spring-lock in my oil...

I changed my oil last night and this came out of the drainhole... one of the semi-circle shaped locks for the valvesprings... how bad is this?

(the things called "locks" in the picture):

Pull your valve covers as soon as possible. You can drop a valve and trash the whole engine

If you've done a cam and/or spring swap lately did you happen to lose one in the process? If not DO NOT run your car anymore until you fix the problem. It will drop a valve at any time if you are missing one.

Agreed pull the valve covers now! If you drop a valve, it will be BIG bucks and a BIG headache to fix things.

how was your engine running before the oil change. any ticks, thuds, or noises. obviously like the other guys said, pull the valve covers and check if a lock is missing.

If you do find it, make sure you put that cylinder at TDC before you try to fix it or you'll loose the valve and have to pull the head.
