Default Local shop rebuilding T56, which parts to upgrade?

I was going to send my T56 off to Tick for a rebuild but I think I have changed my mind. I know the guys at the local shop and they rebuild everything from T-10's to tranny's in international trucks so I don't doubt their capabilities.

They are going to give me a good price on labor and obviously I won't have to ship it. Like everything else it comes down to money.

I asked them about upgrades and they said they don't really have any experience with that, they normally just do OEM builds. I appreciate the fact they told me that instead of blowing smoke up my ***.

Third gear is out in my car so I am sure that gear set will need replaced. I am pretty sure the 3-4 shift fork is crap too. Ron said he wants to take it apart the show me what does/doesn't need replaced.

I am doing a H/C/I install and bolt on install while the trans is down. I am hoping for around 420-430 rwhp.

What are some common upgrades that can be done or weak points that can be helped. I am not needing a 700hp built trans but would like to make it a little stronger if I can.

Thank you.

Jason

Install a syncro kit, solid billet keys in the 3-4 slider assembly and bronze fork pads. In addition, upgrade the 3-4 shift fork and replace the seals.

Pretty much what thesource said. Billet keys, bronze pads, steel fork, seals, etc... May want to go carbon fiber blocking rings if you have the extra cash. Also, alot of times, your bearings do not get mentioned, because normally they are good. BUT, if you have alot of miles and/or abuse and/or you broke something/wore something out and contaminated fluid and been driving for awhile, you COULD have damaged the bearings as well. So, make sure those are checked when apart.

Thanks for the replies. I might just end up ordering the tick stage 2 kit and have the local shop put it in.

I really only want to do this once.

Might want to put a good clutch in it while you are at it. No sence in removing the transmission twice!

I am going with a monster clutch, more than likely a stage two. I bought a tick master cylinder and remote bleeder from a board member(thanks gen414).
