Default So who has repainted a car sunset orange?

I know there are a few people that have done this. The real sunset cars seem to change color in the sun, so my question is does the paint have some kind of pearl in it from the factory? I want to make sure this effect is dupplicated with the repaint. Does it require a spcial base coat or a special clearcoat. I believe the some paint code is 71u. Iam repainting a car this color and want it to come out awesome so any hints or experiences anyone has to offer would be appreciated. I owned a som car once but had to sell it when I got laid off and I want it back. Thanks.

I just sent my 97 off to get painted SOM and I do believe the painter said that there was pearl in it. I know it's a three stage paint and it ain't cheap.

SOM is a two-stage color. The metallic additive in the base gives it its color flop.

I was going to go with SOM, or the Z06 blue. The paint shop employees said that the Z06 blue is just about all pearl. I decided to go with a custom Matrix Paint mix. It's an FX series candy w/ a pearl mixed in. It should go in tomorrow. I will post pics next week when I get it back.

I didn't think there was pearl in it. It laid down very easy even in my garage.

Post pics OP when you get some.

I don't think it has pearl. Not many metallics have pearl as well. Not to my knowledge anyway...

You have to pay extra to have the jambs sprayed. Not really worth it, IMO. You should buy the color you want, lol.

SOM does have quite a bit of gold pearl in it, at least in the glasurit 90 and 55 lines, also in the RM Diamont line. There are many metallics out now that have at least a little bit of pearl in them that's what gives the flop.
