Default MTI heads/Cam guys inside.. Please convince me!

Im about to order MTI's Head and cam package but before I blow 5700 dollars on the package I want to make sure im not making a bad mistake.

My car: 02 SS with all the bolt ons and a vig 3200.

1st Q: Is the C2 or X1 to much cam for a daily driven car(200 miles a week) including 55 miles driven to track on Fridays. I dont drive my car far distances.

2nd Q: Were you completely satisfied with this package? What were your before and after times with this package??

Last Q: I run 12.50's consistently, with their Stage II Heads and C2 or X1 Cam, is it possible for me to hit 11.50's, or is it too much to ask?

Thanks guys I hope to hear great responses and any input is greatly appreciated..

GO FOR IT! MTI is a TOP LS1 TUNER and put out awesome heads and have great tuning prowess for dialing in their packages. I would go with the C2 cam if your a daily driver but if your looking for the most power then go with the x1, as its my understanding this cam is still 100% streetable, but the street manners probably will be better with the C2. Your car should be good for mid 11 second time slips no problem with either cam and quite possible good for some low 11 sec. runs. You may pay a little bit more for a MTI package but you get what you pay for and they stand behind their product and work 100%.

GO FOR IT and enjoy the NEW POWER!

MTI 427 C5 Roadster.

ps-My 98 C5 is currently at MTI getting its new 427 Ironblcok superstroker and should be complete by the end of this week. Its a pewter vert with black top and 6 pt rollbar. Did you see it when you were there?

Snaxs, I just got my MTI heads and cam installed last friday.
I chose the C2 cam, mainly because it has proven to be a great cam on street and the track. I've driven the car for two days and the car is not tuned yet. After installation, the car fired right up and found its idle immediately. No drivability problems at all, my car dirves almost as stock. It has litle lope to it(still have the cats on)main difference is little shake and more valve train noise. I'll have tune this friday and post some dyno #'s.
Car is a 01 Z06.

Mid and low 12s here on street tires.. X1 Cam isnt too bad for daily driving (as I drive mine everyday) with proper tunning..

Have a good one!

I have the MTI stageII heads with the C1 cam.Im very pleased with the drivability of it in a daily driver. Its not the fastest around, but it runs 11.5s-6s at 118 in a 3800 w/ driver M6.You wont regret it!!

I went from 12.51 to 11.90 when I went from just bolt-ons to MTI Stage 2 heads/cam with the T1 cam. No other changes. The X1 is a bit rowdy for a daily-driver (my opinion), but is an excellent power maker! I'd probably stick with a C2 cam since I tend to stay on the conservative drivability/lope side. I just add bigger motors instead

Make sure you let Jayson work his majic with the tuning after the H/C install and that car will become an entirely different animal. I let MTI install my heads and I can honestly say that the car was treated as well or better than I would treat it. I am overly protective of my "wifes'" SS and the car passed with an A++. If you want to here the C1 (112 lc) with MTI S2 heads or the X cam personally, just drop me a line and you can hear my car or John Campbells "Pepper". We both live in Pasadena near BW8 and Fairmont Prkwy. Just let me know. I'll take ya for a spin. Goodluck!!

All I can say is that this is a no brainer. I have the C1 112 lc and the MTI Stage2 heads. This is the most deadly streetable combo I could have imagined. I don't mean kind of streetable, I mean it should have come from the factory like this. I bracket race a lot and I went from consistant 12.20s to a new best of 10.91. I pulled a new 60 ft of 1.43 Sunday @ HRP with about a 100 mph head wind and still pulled an 11.00 @ 120.65 mph. The X1 and C2 cams will produce good power also , but I have the stock 346 bottom end and I pull these times with out turning the motor tighter than 6500 rpm. IMHO , MTI has produced more consistant high HP heads cam packages than most of the competition. If you are trying to save money don't short cut yourself in the heads/cam selection or you will kick yourself for it later and I will be the first say I told you so.lol. I know of 5 cars that have this same package and have the exact very happy performance results. Valve train noise is typical of H/C packages so that is not even a factor. I dyno'd @ 408 RWHP with this combo. I have the stock 10 bolt w/3.23 gears and the Yank ST3500. I hope this helps ya!!! BTW- MTI rocks!!!!!!!!!

I can't say that there were NO other changes, but here is a little more detail. I went from running consistent 12.20s in decent air then added an 80# roll cage plus a RCI 5 pt harness and dropped ? weight with the addition of Weld Drag lites The race weight held right at the 3470-3520 race weight with my skinny 148lb *** in the car(all muscle of course). This is why I didn't factor in any weight reduction. The car is not gutted.I did pull the front seat for the 10.91 though.
So from the 12.20s I added the C1 Hammer cam from MTI and went to a new best of 11.66. Keep in mind that I have done every bolt on and power enhancing mod that MTI offers and the cam was obviously a big limiting factor. From there MTI saved me from a Nasty broken defective valve spring issue that they were not legally responsible for, and installed the Magical MTI Stage 2 heads. After the the installation of the MTI S2 heads and custom tuning the car went a new best of 10.91 and my wife backed that 10.9 pass up twice with the next two runs. I can honestly say that I had never intended this car to run this quick because I didn't want to give up the drivability comfort. Lets just say MTI created a monster and I am very grateful. My wifes' SS is just one of many out there. You do the math. Good luck!!
