Default My first 9 @ the Thunder Shootout.

Believe me, I aint crying. I knew the rear end was my weak link. It was set up wrong, and had major whine, and pinion slop. Before tearing into it, my guess is that the ring & pinion broke.

My goal was to get a 9 sec run. I got the car back so late from ARE, that I did not have time to get everything together that I wanted to. There was much more to do. I wont get into that.

I'll have to get together the time slips & post all the runs. From memory, off the trailer Fri night. tires @25 psi, fronts @33, I forgot to mess with the Hals, so they were set on stiff, the run was a 11.1@121, I think the 60 was 1.6 something. I was very impressed that the car ran this, with a 400T, heavy driveshaft, 12 bolt, and a nitrous built motor with the timing set back @ 25.

Expect a 10 sec all motor run out of the car next year, on motor. BTW, raceweight was 3500.

On Sat, I set up the car for the nitrous runs. I dont have the slips right in front of me, but the car did not want to go better than a 10.01@135.

Sun, pretty much the same thing. The car was leaving hard, but twisting very hard. It was obvious that I needed a sway bar or bags in the rear. After talking to other racers who had the Hals, they thought that with the Hals on 0, their cars seemed to be unloading the rears when it came down. So I turned mine up to 6, came out, launched, it felt pretty much like the rest, pulled up a few feet, twisted, and launched. Didn't come down as hard, @ I hit every shift as soon as the light came on. Get to the booth to get my slip, let out a big yell!!
.471
1.417
4.099
6.334
110.02
8.263
9.901@137.39!!

Raceweight on that run was 3552.

So, a PB on motor, a PB on spray. A win win for me.

Then we get to the grudge match with Derty. He's been running 9.5's, so I'm not expecting anything special. Let go of the TB, and the rear went. So he go me on that one. I wish we had went on motor, I got ya there Steve

So, now to rebuild the rear. set up the rear the right way, sway bar, air bag, & come out in the spring swinging. If you look at the pics, or video, you can see how messed up the rear setup is. I am guessing at least a tenth gain with the car launching straight, that combined with a few other things that I have in mind should make for some better times next year.

Did I mention I got a 9.90?

To all those who took pics on my car, lets see some of those wheels up. I hung em up all weekend long. I know someone got some.

BTW, the car has a 393 ARE all bore LS6, w/LS1 heads. (I call it a 396, it's close enough). Set up for nitrous, O-ringed block, forged internals, upgraded bolts, stock crank, offset ground. Tranny is a TH-400, HD driveshaft, 12 bolt Moser.

Nitrous setup is the old NOS Nozzle kit that ESP had on their car. I estimate the shot to be @ 220. Jets were 28 square. Needs to be tuned for those jets.

Two questions.........why did you go with a LS6 Block with LS1 Heads? Also, what kind of rear did you have in there when it blew up? Stock Rear/Ratios?

It was a Moser 12 bolt with a posi. ARE Upgraded both Harolds and my motor to LS6 blocks when we did the big bores this year. Better oiling qualities. We both already had fully ported LS1 heads, it wasn't worth doing LS6 heads just yet.

And Harold, every time you've grudged me this year I've slapped the crap out of you. I just don't spend a ton of time on motor these days. Too happy running consistent 9.5x's as of yesterday, wooo hoo! I have to look at getting a chute real soon, trapping 147 was rather interesting!

"And Harold, every time you've grudged me this year I've slapped the crap out of you. I just don't spend a ton of time on motor these days."

I seem to have forgotten the other grudge matches. When did they occur?? My car is still faster on motor. LOL.

The times on motor are just indicitive of how much more faster the car will run on spray, when it's jetted up & the combo is sorted out.

This was only my second time to the track all year, with the car. First time with this nitrous system, and first time ever using a trans brake. It's only going to get better as I get used to it, and sort the details out. A few months at the track should make for some good times at the next Shootout.

As stated, the rear is a Moser 12 bolt, with 3:73 gears.

I dont remember running you, but you def were running better than I was. The car had stock injectors & no tune on it. Went a 11.75.@120.

Ahh, thank God there is always next year.

Congrats, Harold. Still wondering what I'm going to do this winter on the Formula (little spray, big spray, stroker, stroker with spray, or not much of anything). You guys are making me want to step on over the spray-side. Take care. Dave
