Monster 1/2 stage clutches, what are they?
I was going to order my monster clutch tonight and I saw they have released the 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, etc. The description on them are the same as the regular stages.
Does anyone know anything about them?
Thanks.
Jason

Obvisouly the 1/2 Levels are just coming out, and while the dealers (including myself) are still getting the "technical" data about them, I can tell you this.
The 1/2 levels share similarites with their counterparts (in other words, teh 2.5 is similar to the 2 in that they share teh same holding capacity, but they do have different discs) and the 1/2 levels carry teh no chatter guarantee.
I am sure Steve will chime in soon with the technical side of it soon, but in the meantime hope that helps some.
As usual, you cant ask me to many questions, so fire away anytime guys.
Thanks!

The descriptions are close to the same but not quite.
Our half stages guarantee no chatter and a smoother engagement, this is done by using different friction materials and a full faced disc. We rate them the same as their counterparts, we just guarantee no chatter and a smoother engagement.
Call us at the shop if you have more questions!

Cause I have had a monster 6, 6.5 and a 11" test unit. My favorite was the level 6, it hit really hard and released very fast! but the pressure plate's wont engage again at 7500 rpm's... I have a whole story in this section.

Cause of teh money factor. I believe it was alrady stated. Some people can put up with chatter on a higer rated clutch, as they know they have to sacrifice SOMETHING. BUt, for those that want their cake and eat it to, you have teh 1/2 Levels, to give you teh holding power you want/need at upper levels, and teh no chatter. But for some, to save a $100, and they might have some chatter, they can deal with it to save money.
By offering BOTH options, it helps teh consumer
Well, depends on whats "acting normal" to you. Basically teh 1/2 level is gonna give you a smoother engagement than thier counterparts, AND still give you the holding power you need at the Level you chose. In your case the 3.5. If you went with the Level 3 (and their are MANY out there) they will tell you that during break in, clutch had some chatter to it. Got better as mileage racked up. With your 3.5, you should not experience that chatter.
Help? If not, let me know guys. Thanks!

From what i gather just from reading this thread, a full faced will get you smoother engagement and no chatter vs a pucked clutch which will chatter a bit on break-in and have a quicker engagement (try to act like an on/off). However i have a pucked clutch and it doesnt really act like an on/off switch but it does engage pretty dang quick.

Puck style clutches have better cooling characteristics and will generally take a prolonged amount of abuse, plus they are lighter than the full face. That's a pretty brief description, none of our stuff is a "on/off" switch, period.
The full faced setup will take abuse and is prodominantly recommended for the guys that never want chatter. This disc will provide a much smoother engagement and will be a great daily driver setup.
