Need help misfire and metal in the oil
I've got a 98 ta auto 3500 stall heads and a 224/224 cam in it never tuned yet. All done recently but before i bought the car. Bought it with the interior out of it and got it back in and it had ran fine for a month just moving it around the shop. On the first real drive out i had it 3/4 throttled and when i let off it had started knocking from the passenger side i could feel it through the intake. Also missing from the same side. Pulled intake and head on that side and found nothing unusual. Pistons all looked the same wear and pattern. From what i can see the cam looks good to, havent pulled it. There is quite a bit of metal shavings in the oil also, bright silver in color. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Jake

If you can see the metal guaranteed it is bad. Pulling it apart and finding the fault is mandatory. Best guess is a rod journal. But pulling it down is the only real answer the rest is just speculation.

OK let me get some more info.
3/4 so what RPM range where you at
what heads
how long have you had it and running it with no tune
did you do a heat cycle on the springs before driving it under load (ie running it on the streets)
Did you do the work or was it done at a shop
Well star with that and we'll go from there

a knock you can feel like that and shiny shavings sounds like a rod bearing. Interior wasnt installed in car? Sounds to me like it must have been a track car? Someone heard a knock, put some 20w50 in it and sold it, unfortunately to you

I already said just moving around the shop and first drive is the only run time on it. The heads are GTP stage II something thats all I know Jeremy Flippin did all the work before i bought the car and it was never run after he did it. Im doing all the work now. The guy just lost interest and the car was never a track car he planned it to be but never got it done. The rpm i was at was about 4500 or so. I understand the rod bearing but that doesn't explain the misfire. I was thinking maybe a cam lobe went flat but then theres the metal in the oil

in any case, metal in oil and knocking means a tear down is most likely needed...
Misfire could be caused by the knock sensors retarding timing so much from the knock or could be a completely separate problem.

I agree, if there's metal in the oil it neds to be taken apart....if a rod bearing goes it might be possible that the piston touched the spark plug and closed off the gap....I'm guessing though, either way it needs to be taken apart.
