Default Have some problem, help!

about two weeks ago the car has been having some issues starting, have to let it crank for a couple of seconds, still ran fine. Went to drive it today and it cranked fine and everything but when I slow down it surges really bad and every now and then dies. It smells like it's running really rich. It runs fine on the highway and still pulls hard.

Even if you leave it in neutral (a4) when you get down to 15 mph and below on the way to stop it surges around really bad still.

What would cause the car to do this? Or maybe suddenly run super rich? If it was running really rich could that cause the problem starting to? It starts fine when its cold. But when the engine is warm is when it has trouble starting.

Thanks for any help.

Usually failing 02 sensors will make the engine run very rich. You need to get a scan to see if they are switching properly. You will not get an SES light until they fail or the engine is running HORRIBLY.

Oh, it needs to be a scanner like the dealerships use. So you can actually see how they are working in real time with the engine running. Its the real OBDII scanner.

If it is 02 sensors.....only buy them here www.rockauto.com $40.00 each. Anywhere else you're gonna pay double, triple or quadruple.

Other cheap things to do:
Clean the MAF
Change the spark plugs if they're old. (pain in the *** to do though)
Fuel filter if its more than 15,000 miles.

Post those numbers in the "PCM and Diagnostics" section. I don't know much about numbers for 02 readings.

No codes?

Then it possible is the 02 sensors. They won't necessarily throw a code until they fail or the engine is running really bad.
