Default thinkin bout a Magic Stick 4

So i currently am running a Texas Speed 228r w/ 228/228 and .588/.588 112deg. Lobe Sep. I also have the following mods......
Underdrive pulleys
Yank ss3600 Stall
Strange 3:73 Gears
Pacesetter L/Ts
Off-road Y Pipe
SLP Loudmouth
Whisper Lid
Smooth Bellows
K&N Air Filter
Smog/Emissions Delete

So will going to the Texas Speed Magic Stick V.4 239/242, .649"/.609" Lobe Seperation (111 LSA Standard) make a big difference or should i go for a custom ground cam or just leave it alone and save up for a 92mm FAST Intake Manifold with PTM 92mm Throttle Body?

Thanks for helping with yet another Cam questions......

What are your goals for the car?
Is the car mostly street driven or a drag car that's driven occasionally?
I see you have stg 2.5 5.3 heads. Is this with the stock bottom end?
If yes are you willing to flycut your pistons?

How much milling on the heads? fly cutting WILL be necessary with the MS4 if they are fly cut...and possibly even if they are un milled. Check PTV for clearance for sure if you do. I would look at a custom grind myself, since you have heads and stall and everything. Talk to some sponsors, PatG, Predator, or Ed Curtis about a custom cam for your car.

Fly cutting is notching the pistons so the valves will clear. I am sure someone on here with more experience doing the project can explain it in detail. I have not done it yet, and hopefully wont for a while.

i loved mine, just make sure you have a good tuner or you will hate driving the car...

if you are torn though.. get a custom grind, no question about it..

if it was me I wouldn't use the MS4 for a full weight car that's street driven. The 228 cam is a very good choice for a street car that sees some track time. The MS4 makes very good top end power at the expense of bottom end torque and driveability. Flycutting is cutting reliefs in the pistons to clear the intake and exhaust valves. This will most likely be needed with just about any larger cam than what you currently have(unless it has already been done or the engine has forged pistons with valve reliefs).

I say go for a ported Fast intake and throttle body, which will benefit your current combo and anything you decide to do down the road.

This https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...e-why-not.html is a very good thread about small versus large cams. I'm also trying to find a thread with dyno results comparing the two cams in question and will attach it shortly.

Dyno comparison: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...mparision.html Note how the 228 cam makes more HP and TQ till about 4500 RPM when the large cams start to ramp up.

Flycutting writeup: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...t-pistons.html

I would wait and see how the TSP testing turns out. Surely they will test a bunch running the 5.3 stage 2.5s.
