Default which converter for 10sec turbo car?

if you were limited to 91 octane,
which trans would you get?

i am leaning toward the th350
but will a 700r4 do?

next question,
if you were to run about 5-8 pounds boost
what stall converter would you get?

ive had a 4000 on NA
was awesome

but im thinking i could go lower
turbo might make more useable low rpm power
and all the torque might make the verter stall even higher

which trans and verter?

4000 would be too high. more like 3000-3400

Is it a lt1 or ls1 car? th400 or 4l80e if you want OD

ive had a 3400 before also
it was barely good enough
i guess it will do until i can get that turbokit

this is an ls1 car

4l80e is not available to me, i think.
im getting a 350 or 700 including converter for $700
im sure the 4l80e is out of my price range
if i had all the munies i think i would get a 200r4 anyway?

any reason why i should get a 400 instead of a 350???

look here
www.converter.cc

we have a full line of power adder converters and the PY 3600 sounds pretty close
but you might want to call us on Monday as our new sale starts then.

Need some more info. If this is an LS1 car, does it have the stock 4L60E? Is it an F-Body. What are you expected power levels and weigh. Depending on these answers, you can get a built 4L60E that will be able to hold the power. The 400 is stronger than the 350. I would not go 700R4, just use the 4L60E. The 4L80E is still an option, but it does get pricey.

As far as the converter. We custom build turbo converters, I know we can take care of your setup. We also have the multi disk option for WOT lock up, turbo cars love that. Stall depends on the torque curve, basically how fast your turbos will build boost. Lets get some more info and then we can get you some answers.

the car is a 96 Firebird
but it has an ls1 in it
no trans at all,
i found a deal where i can get a "built" trans with converter for $700,
i get to choose 700r4 or th350, and choose any stall speed

im not sure im going to take that deal, though..
i kinda dont want to get an unknown converter

ive had a stock verter before,
a Midwest 3400.. was better but i wanted more stall and more shift extension
got a Yank SS4000.. was a LITTLE loose for a DD but damn
i lost no race, not even to that cocky M6 driver
"ITS AN AUTOMATIC?!!" hahaha

unfortunately when my cars were apart i stupidly lent out my trans and verter to this one dude who i thought was my friend but his car got stolen, he lost his job, he gives me nothing and has nothing for me to take.

this time around im going to strip the car,
i dont know what it will weigh, hopefully 2999lbs or less

its going to be slow at first
until i can get a turbo
i plan on getting that cali-legal STS
i dont know its limitations,
but even then im going to limit the car to 91 octane

i hope to at least have a 10 sec daily driver after that turbo + fuel upgrades

"Stall depends on the torque curve" im guessing i should go moderate, like 3600 so its not stalling too high when i get the turbo?

i think i remember yank used to do that one free restall
that would be handy
or am i thinking of the wrong company?

what would be really nice is if Yank were to cut me a deal considering i already bought a SS4000 when it first came out at like $950 or something

the car would scare people with that verter in it
they start reaching for things to hold on to
hahaha

and then i lend it out with trans cause im such a stand-up guy
only to have it stolen..

A built trans and converter for $700 is very cheap. A quality converter will cost you that much. Going with a 400 trans will be the best option for durability and price. Good luck.

exactly why im so hesitant. im going to see if this dude gives a warrantee for the trans. but i really dont know about that verter.. he doesnt list STR or SE.. im kinda spoiled with that 21-blade stator.. i doubt he can offer that?

so im still looking around

Im running a Yank py3600 with 5 to 8lbs on a procharged setup with a lvl 5 FLT 4l60e. If your looking to go the cheap route, Id look at a th350 cheap to rebuild and lots of parts are available.

been doing more research
why doesnt everyone use the 200r4?
doesnt it have OD, lockup, transbrake, durability?

found one "built" for $625 with stock verter

how difficult is it to get it to work with an ls1 car?

are there high stall performance converters for 200r4 + ls1?
