Hey guys, just a quick question about gears>
Just wondering if, with a stock 4l60e with the 323s out back. Would I notice a substantial increase in acceleration (aka worth the price) if I dropped a set of 373s in the stock 10 bolt. I'm not making enough power that I'm concerned about my 10 bolt really. Also, even though I didn't buy my car for the fuel mileage (like so many seem to be overly concerned with considering what the car is meant for ) I am curious how much it will affect my highway rpm and mileage by doing this. Is it a BIG loss in mileage (not worth the performance increase?)?
Anyways, how much would I notice in accel and overall street fun ! Just wondering how much they lose on the top speed too? I mean I don't want to be topping out too low on the speedo either right?
Will it reduce my et substantially? THanks in advance.

Also just wondering which ones do I get? LIke how do I tell if it's a 7.5 or 7.65 diffs? Will the SLP 373s be a good choice or are there other vendors who offer competive pricing vs. quality. Thanks again.

Sooooooo, I'm thinkin' Well I'm just about to do that again too but it seems like there are some varying opinions on how worth the bang for buck is in going from the 323 to the 373s. Let me know guys if anyone's got some first hand experience.

The gears listed for our cars are 7.5 or 7.625. They appear to be the same thing. I personally went with Motive 3.73s and so far so good as i have launched a bunch of times on DRs with no problems. I personally would not go any higher then 3.73 with an auto if you do a lot of freeway driving. I drive mostly interstate and i hated the 3.73s when i first drove them. Im getting used to them now after about 500-1000 miles. My rpms jumped from 2050 at 70 mph to 2500 at 70 mph. With gears : AAM seems to be the quietest, Motives are stronger but some have problems with noise, Richmonds seem to be the strongest and loudest, I think AAM makes SLP gears, I dunno who makes summit gears for them, some have had good luck with JAWS gears also.
Also, the car will pull better on the hwy and in town with less effort, accel does pick up, and i picked up a solid 2.5 mph at the track.

Is there a specific brand or install kit that I should be looking into. I've got a few helpful tips from 01ssreda4 and basically it depends if I want quiet or loud and strong. So my good 'ol ten bolt should hold the lower power I'm making (probably about 400 at the crank or something, could be putting down close to 330rwhp or so) and not grenade? I know we are not psychics but I'm looking for tried and tested to work here, not hit and miss too much. Thanks guys.

AAM(GM) Gears are the easiest to set up and run the quietest. Motive Performance would be my second choice due to strength and setup but you may have a little gear noise. I would say 95% of the ones we install in our shop are quiet. Let me know if we can help or check out our website.

I notice easier accel without the need to always downshift, it runs through the gears easier and quicker, makes the motor feel slightly stronger pretty much anywhere in the powerband. With my loud exhaust it has taken a while to get used to on the hwy. It was annoying at first but the reality is you have to pay some kind of price to go faster.

The last A4 car that we put 3.73s in was a big difference over all. Cut his short times down and made it alot more fun on the street...... even better after we put a stall in it afterwards.

If you do them yourself...make sure you follow all installation instruction!!! I just put in a set of AAM 3:73's, no gear whine. But the pinion pre-load changed and now i have to take the whole thing back apart to reset the pre-load This time i bought two new pinion bearings and a solid crush sleeve. And yes the car feels more responsive and feels better at all speeds. Don't forget your going to have to tune the car for the gear change to keep the speedometer correct.
