carbon fiber driveshaft
Anyone know the HP limits of a carbon fiber driveshafts? In a light (2800 lb) street car making 450-490 HP, can it hold up reliably? Any experience?? THX

BADSS you are right that the dollar ratio is poor....but after you get past most of the "easy" weight reduction tricks, where else do you go? My 69 Camaro has a Martz aftermarket front end, carbon fiber hood, aluminum fenders and deck lid, soon to have an aluminum LS6 and T-56,gutted interior, fiberglass dash,no radio,no heater or ducts,on and on and on......all of the items I am looking at now cost $$$. As for the CF driveshaft, not only is it dropping weight, but it is rotating weight. An aluminum driveshaft from MW is around $600-700 depending on options...CF is around $1000. These are custom made per application...check out the MW website...

Sitll have ac core, airbags, a heavy steel cage, etc... I went with a 4130 driveshaft, spent 300, and used the money I saved for taking almost 100 lbs from the car...
I am a weldor, so i fabbed up a custom aluminum exhaust for my car, saved 43 lbs... .045 wall 3" od aluminum tube, and fabricated aluminum mufflers.... Cost for me, $75 43 pounds down.... aluminum bumper supports(30 lbs saved) And race brakes. Do you have race brakes? Better bang for the buck.

CF Driveshaft
Sounds like we are on the same quest to drop weight.....I have Wilwood brakes on the Martz front end and the Mark Williams aluminum rear end. I bought a set of Torq Thrust II's before I became weight conscious....I think they weigh more than the rest of the car combined....
