Gen 5 Camaro Internal Engine Tech - Planet LSX Camaro gets new wheels (22")
Nine Ball

These just arrived today, so here are some teaser shots before I do a full photo shoot.
iForged "Sprint" wheels, 22x9 fronts, 22x11 rears. 265 wide front tires, 315 wide rears, Pirelli tires. Matte black centers with chrome lips. The centers match my stripes well.
This is a test set, so the offsets need a little more work. I need the rears to tuck in about 1/4" more to be flush. There was plenty of room on the back inside to tuck more.

These cars are HUGE. 21s come from the factory. This is no different than putting 18s on a 4th gen. The OEM tires are nearly 29" tall, and 4th gens only had 26" tall tires. Same proportions.

I'm on the fence. Like you said, the rear needs to be pushed in a little. Maybe I'd like it more with a 1" drop all around?

Looks good, but I think I would have gone smaller in the front. Needs a drop too. Keep it going, though. So far, so good!

There's a little too much rim there for my liking. I think 21's are ok, but 22's are just a bit too large. Honestly, I like to see a little bit of tire.

So you own a brand new muscle car you go and put 22's on it...why???
If you want to fill the wheel wells out use some slicks....
Not feeling it, and don't feel that these size rims belong on any performance car...what is the rolling resistance on those heavy a$$ things???

Not feeling it man... Ive always like your wheel choices but this one is no bueno for me.I'm afraid I'm +1 on both parts. Maybe some more tuck in back, and a bit more drop?
Also, the stockers can be 18"-21". I think the 18"s are a little too small when compared to the 20" standard SS wheels, but the 21"ers are a little too big. 20" are perfect, IMHO.
Not with you on this one, 9B, but it's the first time. *shrug* Still, wonderful car. Really looks badass.

Love it, but I would like a bigger lip in the rears and maybe 21" up front to have a nice staggered look. Car looks awesome reguardless, love the color, makes me want to come off of the black I am hellbent on getting, haha!!

Just curious as to where you get tires mounted on the high-end rims you sell? I'd like to find a good shop in Houston.

I think it looks good. welcome to the new age, it looks like your stuck in the 90's.... not to mention you can always have a set of 17's or 18's for the track because 15's arent even gonna clear the brakes on these cars today.... bigger isnt always better but the 20" stock wheels on my ss look tiny..

I'm with those who say 20 looks good and 22 is a bit on the large side... just me. Might be same proportions as 4th gen but big is still big :P
I agree it is a sick car tho :D

To me, 21s are perfect for the new Camaro. Problem is, nobody makes shit for tire sizes/choices in 21s. 20s with an aftermarket lip look smaller than stock, since the stock wheels have spokes that lead all the way to the edge of the wheel. The factory 20s look larger than normal due to the spokes being longer. You'd need aftermarket 21s to make them visually the same size as the factory 20s. But, then you have the tire limits mentioned already.

For all the big wheel haters, here is a photo I just snapped to help illustrate why 22s fit the 2010 Camaro. The tires themselves are 3 inches taller than what you are used to seeing. 29" OEM tire vs a 26" 4th gen sized tire. This is an 18" CCW vs 20" 2010 wheel.

Take a gander at DSE's similar-colored "mule" and it's dropped suspension.
Nice ride ya got!
Have you weight figures for the mounted 22's vs. the factory wheels/tires? And, in your varied fitments, which wheels/tires/sizes are showing weight DECREASES? I appreciate the info.

22" sounds big but it looks reasonably proportionate on the '10. It is a much bigger car than the 4th gens and doesn't look ghetto at all.

Not diggin' it. Lowered it'd look better of course, but I'm feeling the multi-spoke look on the Camaro. I could see them on an Audi, 370Z, M3 or something of that nature, but not here. Something with five thicker spokes would look killer. That or a mesh wheel. Not big on the thin spokes and convex bow they've got.

Looks good Tony. :thumb: Those cars (and wheels wells) are so big that a 21" or a
22" wheel looks right at home IMO. Great choice in wheels as always.
I'm sure you'll be modifying this car much more per your normal addiction.
Make sure to drop it a little bit. Some big 6 piston Brembos up front would look badass
too.
On a side note, it's like everyone here has forgotten who you are already.
You're probably one of 5 guys that has actually put some real track time in, yet people

i like the wheel choice, although i think i would prefer 20's.. Definately a good choice on the wheels though.
Not sure how anyone else feels about it but i kinda like the look of the 2010 with some CCW's... I do think i would stick close to 20" on just about any wheel choice though

Big rims for a big car. Honestly anything less than a 20" rim will look out of place on the new camaro.
There is going to be people that like the way the car looks with the new rims on it, some are not going to like it. Nineball has to expect that for sure, I'm sure he has been around this block more than 100000000000000000 times.
For the guys saying that if you don't like it don't say nothing, gee like you have never gone into somebodies thread and disagreed with what some people said. We all have.
Do I personally like the big rims, no, but on the new camaro the rims Nineball has on the car makes it look good.

Cant say i agree in the choice of a 7 spoke wheel but i think they look good.
These cars have so much more body than the 4th gen. Most of these people on here with 4th gen. cars are so used to 19" wheels being the "biggest" they'd would go.
The factory wheels are 20" so its like some one sticking some 18"s on their
02' Z28. No one poked fun at that.

Nitto now makes a drag radial for 20's. You can thank us S197 mustang guys for that lol. I went the 20'' wheel route when I first got the car. 35 series was the tallest tire you could put on a 20'' wheel and most of the wider models (285+) were 30 or 25 series!!! Zero sidewall = zero traction. And a 275/35-20 in a decent brand name tire runs about $300 ea. I got tired of that shit quick and went back to an 18. I'm looking hard at these camaro's and may purchase one but the more I see things like this, i.e. 18'' wheels won't look worth a damn, the more I think maybe not. Maybe 20'' tires will come down in price and they'll start manufacturing some better sizes like 275/40-20 etc for "muscle cars"...we'll see. I'm hanging with what I got till then.

07-23-2009, 06:51 PM
every body hates on the size... not me i dont think thats the problem i think its the fact that the side walls are so small. obviously i knowits not your fault theres not a huge selection on the market. hopefully soon some companys will come out with some larger tires for the 20+ wheels..

I have never been much for black insert wheels, but I really like the flat black. When ever they are powder coated or painted glossy it just looks strange. They fit that car well.
Some flat black hockey stripes, or accents would look good to match.
It does suck that we can't run any smaller wheels for a little more sidewall, but now adays you can actually find a somewhat affordable performance tire for a 20+ wheel. Back in the early 2000's they were upwards of 600-700 bucks.
How rough does it ride with those rubber band side walls? I had 22's on my lightning and it was pretty rough at times, but that was in a 4600 lb. truck.

Funny, but these 22/315 rear tires were on sale for only $256 each when I bought them online from Tire Rack. That is damn cheap for a 22! The fronts were something like $350 each.
Tony the car looks awesome :)

Pictures of the 5th gen never do it the justice that seeing one in person does. I've been watching Tony's rides since he used to post on LS1.com. I'm sure that in person the car looks totally different & awesome. I ordered CGM also, seems like for a color that only about 5% of the cars built so far come in that I see a lot of pictures of CGM cars.
Since you said that there was still plenty of room in the wheel wells to move the wheels in, do you think that 335's would fit with no mods? I think they would look awesome with some Viper sized steam rollers in the back?
