Is the 2010 Camaro reallya 5th gen?
I ask because it's not an F-body & it's based on a Holden chassis, right?
And if it's not an F-body, then technically it's not a 5th gen, right?
I really don't know but I do see everyone on all sites calling it a 5th gen so I figured I'd ask here why it's called a 5th gen.

Yes? It's a Camaro.
We damn well can't call it a first gen, and it's too different from a fourth gen, so numerically, it has to be a fifth gen.
It's NOT an F-body, though. Cars go through many different platforms and some don't.

Impala has been through MANY different chassis designs and its still on the 9th gen now. Gone from RWD full size to FWD medium size.
Malibu has been through the same as well. Its on its 7th gen and its been through a whole hosts of changes too.
Its still a Camaro so why WOULDNT it be a 5th gen?

I know it's not an F-body but really wasn't the only reason it was called an f-body was because there were 2 cars on the same platform. I know it was made on the f-chassis but the vette is made on the y-chassis and it is rarely called a y-body. It's just reffered to as a vette. Because the Camaro and Firebird were pretty much the same car we unified them by calling them f-bodies so sites and clubs could involve both cars. Now the Firebird is gone even if the new Camaro was built on an f-chassis I doubt we would be calling it an f-body. I would just be "the new Camaro". Right?
