Default MS3 Cam Stock Rod Clearance

Hi, I kinda new to LSx motors. I was just wondering if a MS3 cam would clear the stock connecting rods? The specs on the cam are 237/242 .603/.609 112 Degree. I'm building up an LS1 for my 92 firebird and plan on keeping the motor stock besides the cam, valve train, and I'm going to buy the Edelbrock carb kit. I will put on headers when I get more money.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

yes it will clear. i think the only time you have to worry about that is when you increase the stroke.

Somewhere I read a review that said the MS3 was designed to give the biggest gain of any cam swap to an other wise stock LS1. Meaning no special pistons or shorter rods to clear the valves.

Piston to valve clearance might change but a MS3 or any cam made will not reduce the cam to crank clearance. The base circle gets smaller on larger cams and not the lobe getting bigger so you don't have to worry at all.

Now you run a 4.250 stroke and things get closer.

^^Erik nailed it. Always a good idea to degree in these large camshafts as well, even on stock engines that should have sufficient piston to valve clearance. Lately we've had a handful of customers calling saying we owe them engines because they installed the camshaft off a tooth. After install and before firing, always good to verify your piston to valve clearance as well!

But on yours, connecting rod to cam clearance will not be a concern.

It happens more often than you'd think, sadly.

Does anyone know if I will have to worry about piston to piston clearance with stock rocker arms and this MS3 cam?
