Im not a Duramax expert but have alot of experience with diesels.

Any diesel that is properly maintained will last a long time. Its not like a gas engine where a 200k mile all original engine is considered "worn out". Keep your oil changed and use good oil, I suggest Rotella T. Only use clean fuel and factory reccomended replacement filters, no cheap aftermarket ****. Keep your valves adjusted properly and your air filter clean and im sure it will run great for you.

Also if you want it to last long, resist the urge to hop it up, most engines handle some upgrades and stuff well but the trans will not.

I havnt heard much of problems with those only the early ones. My guess is try a forum. Just google duramax diesel forums and read their threads for any common problems.

What electric said. But there are diesels that are just crap like the early duramaxs and pretty much all the powerstrokes. Me personally I like cummins and deroits.

I have heard the injectors are pretty expensive to replace when they go out.

i use delo for engine oil, a quart of atf every 5000 miles to clean the injectors, change the trans fluid every 25000, and change the fuel filter every time you change the oil. so far ive had no problems with the trans, or engine. I installed an aux fuel filter from nicktane because the gm filters are expensive. its a CAT filter and i change it every 20,000, its cheaper, and havent had a problem.

I have only heard some slight issues with injectors and their suspension requires alot of work from wear and tear with carrying loads. I have a 2000 F350 with a powerstroke with 317000 miles on the original engine. I change the oil every 7500 miles and take good care of it. The 6.0 powerstroke is another story with many many issues. Good luck on your purchase.

You can do little things. There is a member on the site that has a van.And he has added exhaust and a small tune and uses it to tow everyday.
