Default Opinions wanted on Mufflex 4" Catback

I was thinking of replacing my SLP 3" 2OTL with a mufflex 4" catback. I saw a few threads where one said that it was really heavy and another said they gained 27 rwhp w/ a cutout over the 4" mufflex w/ a spintech muffler.

I have stroker so I do need additonal flow.

What are peoples opinions on the system? I know there are 3 muffler options, flowmaster, spintech and the magnaflow race muffler. I'd prefer not to have cutouts but if the mufflex catback is not that much better than my current system I'd rather not spend the money and just do the cutouts.

I'm the one who gained 27hp through a cutout. But I do love te way the car sounds through the spintech muffler. I've heard of people put a borla race muffler in place of the mufflers that come with the kit, and supposedly they flow very well and sound good too.

I'm thinkin about just making a 4" exhaust for my car. I wonder how hard it will be to fab a 4" pipe over the axle... I was planning on giving it a try with the pre-made mandrel sections from summit, along with a magnaflow and lots of strait tubing. I wonder if its anything more than just a 90* at the peak of the over/axle part?

Dang. That's a nasty setup. Yeah, if someone wanted to sell a used mufflex setup I'd be all over it. Really all I want is the over axle part. I can easily weld up the rest of it. I guess if I took my time I could get it right, but im sure that half way thru I'd be ready to buy the whole thing new, lol.

i am sure you have good fab skills so do i and just gave in and bought svstem.it was worth it in the long run + fits really nice.i think you would be miles ahead if you got on.one. my full weight 2002 ta went 10.60 at 130 with shitty 1.8 60ft(way to tight converter).i now have nos and will retest next week.should hit 9x if converter plays nice with the gas.

have you considered true duals?

other option would be the 3.5" mufflex...

either way....i'd go with the magnaflow muffler....i've been VERY pleased with all my MF setups.

I have searched about the Mufflex set-up as much as you have, and the one i considered was the one with the Spintech Muffler. From what i read it sounds very good, but that supposedly don't flow very well if you ge the dual tip version. Then i also have heard that spintech don't flow well at all, how true is that i don't know. I am considering changing out my slp resonators for some spintech super pro streets on my true duals. So that my car can still be loud, but have a sweet tone behind it.

My opinion is save the money if your happy with how your car sounds with the 2OTL, and just add in some cut-outs. That way you can still keep it pretty tame, yet flip the switch and scare people to death.

I fabbed up my own 4" stainless steel exhuast. I have the Z bar removed from my car so with that in place it may make things real tough. Here are a bunch of pictures. I used a Hooker Max flow 4 inch in and out striaght thru muffler. Nowhere near as obnoxious as the loudmouth. Sounds insane on the throttle.

Exhaust looks good in that pic, real good... but damn!!!... street slicks on a 10bolt?

BTW, what is the Zbar...? I havent begun to do suspension work yet, so EVERY damn thing is stock in that dept. It looks just like a 90* bend that you used, right?

Should have noted it was the upper Z bar. There is a bar that runs across the top you will see it on your car. I had removed it looong ago. That 10 bolt is gone replaced with a Moser that has even more gear whine (another story). I fabricated my own Y pipe as well. Very recently I bought a set of ARH headers with their Y pipe and mated it to my 4" system. I did back to back dyno testing when I removed my Kooks off road Y pipe with SLP dual/dual catback and replaced with my fully self fabricated Y pipe and 4" catback and picked up 14 RWHP. Headers were the same 1 3/4 FLP's for both tests.

The only sounds clips I have are from a track rental. It's not loud under normal driving and sounds pretty mean when I am on the pedal.
