if the body is straight and its in decent shape its worth more than that.. what kind of rear end? 10 bolt?

not sure, but it said it only has a roller rear end so id have to replace it.
its def in good shape, i waas suprised, most rollers i see go for around 2.5K, without all the goodies
now i just gotta figure out an engine to put in. i need lots of power, if i have a cage :D

well, being 18, working part time, going to school, and working on a truck doesnt give me THAT much lol. im looking at a budget build, and im shooting for 500hp, maybe 600
i found an lq9, complete out of a escalade, so its the high output. i can get it for 1k, and i was thinking of making it a stroker, roller rockers, cam, intake manifold, ported/polished heads, longtubes, then straight pipes. but idk yet the engine is still pretty far away. luckily, im going to school for auto repair so i can do all the labor myself.
i might just buy a junkyard ls1/ls2 and build that up. idk..

ahhh, on a budget! we all are!
id go 6.0l. PRC stg 1s, ms4 cam, ported 9090, pacesetter LTs with xpipe before the axle, 410s, 4000 stall.. something along those lines and spray it with a 150 shot..
should put you deep into the 10s...

ahhhh damn.. so you just want it to look/sound fast but not be fast!?
yes, that is correct.. that is a very good block to go with.. cheap/reliable..
i know a buddy who can get complete drop outs with under 40-50k miles and a 6 month warranty for like 1200$ or something like that..
you were talking about stroking it.. so instead of that you could do what i said..
heads/springs 950
pushrods 80
timing chain and oil pump 150
cam 250
dyno tune 300
ls6 intake 300
LTs/ypipe and cutout and extensions 350
gears 250
fuel pump 100
nitrous kit any where from 250-600
rough estimates real quick for you.. used prices.. might have left a thing or two out..

yea, my friend from ricekiller can get them for 1200, he works at a dealership.
so, about $3000 into the engine? thats not too bad
what would you recommend for a trans? id like a 6spd manual. just a stock one out of a trans am/camaro?

yea, if you watch for deals you could do all the engine/exhaust for 2500 bucks..
i would recommend not getting a six speed..
if you absolutely HAVE to have a six speed.. you need a clutch, ls6 at minimum.. but thats not going to last long.. shift forks.. etc.. i dont know a lot about t56s so im not going to say much on it.. you can get a4s for dirt cheap and they hold out pretty good at decent power levels.. plus they are faster.

understood, i just want a manual trans for my car, the truck is auto. lol
this is gunna be a weekend car when finished, not some track car. my goal is to have it to where i can take it out on the weekends, and cruise, and kill the majority of lightly modded cars i run across, or give some good runs. my group drives gt's srt4's camaros and T/A's just wanna be able to hang with them.
im not really worried about the clutch, because i wont be stepping on it alot. i mean, not full throttle, double shifting type of stuff. it might see one or two track runs, just to see what it can do

one track run with that setup on a stock t56 would probably demolish the trans..
if your not looking for the fastest thing on the road then i would not buy expensive heads.. some stock ls6 heads or if you really want to go cheap some stock 02 ls1 heads will do the job..

with that setup and PRC stg 1 ported ls6 heads.. 440-450rwhp..
that setup and stock ls6 heads.. around 420-430rwhp..

yes, it is..
well, doesnt really matter what size shot you run because you just use nitrous when you want..
you could "safely" run a 175 shot.. 200 is the limit on a stock bottom, but many people have ran many passes on this size..
a 100 shot would be a very conservative shot..
running around town i would use a 75 shot.. if i knew i was probably going to race or i was looking for some fun i would swap in the 150..

i didnt know how well these engines stood up to nitrous, i know my 5.9L can handle a 200 shot, although its a heavy duty engine lol. i was thinking a 125-150 shot, just left in, incase i found a mustang or something :D

i checked, and its got a shifter setup for a powerglide trans. should i just go with this, would it be better then a 6spd?

Lemons, I agree about the clutch, shift forks, keys, and other weaknesses of the T-56, but if shifted easy with a good clutch it'll still last longer than the 4L60E. that trans is crap. course if he was to put a 4L80E, thats a different story...

You aren't going to want to drive around on the street with a powerglide. They are more of a racing transmission.
If you really want the six speed then get it. A stock T56 will fail if you drive it too hard but you could baby it and make it last.

if you are talking stock for stock... the 4l60e is TONS TONS TONS stronger than a t56...
you can break a t56 with close to stock power... me and PLENTY of people have ran 4l60s with 400+rwhp for a LONG time..
built transmissions.. no reason to argue that, either one can out last the other one.. but "equally built" the automatic will last longer in 99% of setups..
i have a built 4l60e in my car thats is rated to 650hp, im sure it would take much more abuse than that..
not trying to say "your wrong" but i HIGHLY disagree with that..

^^^ not saying your wrong either, but I also disagree ;)
The reason the t-56 will break first isnt necessarily its weakness, but rather bad driving. Missing a gears, grinding gears, that is more likely to break a t-56 than torque. There's a procharged camaro that runs high 9's with a stock t-56, not likely to see that with a stock 4l60e.

by "stock" does that mean a BONE STOCK untouched transmission.. or its "stock-ish"... im curious.. if it TRULY is stock, thats impressive...
either way.. in the hands of 98% of people the 4l60e will last much longer..

I believe I found that video a long time ago linked from a thread on here. If I remember correctly, it was a completely untouched t-56. That was the first single digit run if IIRC because he was afraid to shift that hard. You are correct tho, in most cases it will last longer, but thats still driver error lol. for straight line racing... you can't beat an auto. I'll look and see if I can dig up the thread.

its internally stock. change of clutch/clutch hydraulics is very easy. a stock clutch wouldnt hold a bolt on car with a small shot.
I'd consider it a stock t-56, just aftermarket clutch. thats like a stock 4l60e with a nice stall converter, still a stock 4l60e... Just my opinion tho.

was just curious at others outlook on that..
in my eyes.. a converter hurts a 4l60e more than helping it.. as far as life expectancy goes..
as for a clutch, its makes the t56 stronger..
guess its whatever your opinion on stock is..
like is a lid on an ls1 still "stock"?

actually you're quite wrong. a good clutch will hurt a t-56... the better it grips, the more shock it transmits to the gears. A stock clutch will prolong the life of a t-56 by having some slippage (slipping wont heat the trans fluid in a stick, unlike a slipping converter in an auto). Same with the fly wheel, light weight fly wheel means less hp loss, more drive train shock. Same with hydraulics... the stock master cylinder limits hydraulic flow under WOT, making shifting quickly damn near impossible. A tick adjustable master cylinder will make it much easier to slam gears, also adding stress to the trans. Lemons, you really know your stuff with the LS1, and 4l60e, but you severely underestimate the t-56. :engarde:
and fwiw unless you go into the engine, most people consider it stock. same with the trans. the trans isn't any stronger unless you go into it. Your just making it more efficient with better clutch/flywheel/master, not stronger.
