Definately need more info to make a good decision.
But, not knowing anything else, I would try the converter you have first, it's in the car and that's free to leave alone. Gear wise, depends on a few things, street/track or a mix, and what rear you have. I'd suggest 4.10's or 3.90's but if you're on a 10 bolt anything more then 3.73 is gonna get really weak and won't last. If you have a 12 bolt or 9 inch in the car 3.9x seems like an overlooked ratio alot of times and is a good compromise.
Track only car 4.10 all day with a 26 inch tire, 4.30 with a 28. with a 12 bolt/9 inch Street car 3.73 or 3.90.
Still on a 10 bolt, 3.73, or hold off and save the $ to put a good rear in the car so you don't have to worry about it.

his car weights around 3100 raceweight, he has 3.73's and a 3600 converter. Its mainly a full bolt on car as of now. I have been researching cams as well and im leaning towards the 236/240 (one of lloyds cams). however im going to a A3 and i have 3.90's already plus i will have a 4000 converter. Sorry to hijack the thread matt...
