SLP MAF or Stock MAF?

SLP MAF or Stock MAF?
Right now I have a 2000 WS6 and my MAF has gone bad. In the next couple of years I am going to add mods to it. I will put on LS6 Heads, Headers, TR224 or TR228, LS6 intake or Fast 90/90. I was wondering which MAF I should get? I need to buy one now and the OEM is $300 at the dealership and the SLP MAF is $180.

If you plan on doing a fast 90 I would at least go with slp. Slp's maf is 85mm and your stock one is only 75mm. If you want something a little bigger you can get tsp 100mm for $250. The only problem is I think you have to do a tune for the aftermarket MAF.

If you're going to tune anyway, then skip the SLP
and get a Z06 or descreen a truck MAF. These have
good tables available. I've picked up truck MAFs for
under $40 on eBay and have been running one of
them (descreened) for years.

Is there really any gain to be had on say a full bolton car? I will add a cam and some 243's later but people always say the stocker is good for 550hp. Would I see any gain at all from a truck MAF?

yes it would be best to get it tuned with anything other than a stock maf. its a crap shoot if any other maf will work better, worse, or just ok without a proper tune on it. i would do the 85mm truck maf for cheap and get a tune....

I don't have a tune because the car is stock expect for a lid. My MAF has gone bad and I need to replace it. I don't know which way to go and I will not be getting a tune for a couple of years when I go a cam and head change. I was looking at SLP and they say that their MAF's are for stock tunes, is that true?

If you get a truck maf like jimmyblue. Down the road you wont have to worry about getting another maf when you do cam and heads. The tune and the maf might cost more now but that will be cheaper then buying the stock one then a bigger one down the road.

the slp maf is a gm 85 maff with a resister sodered in it to make it suposedly work with stock tune. it will work. just not the best, without further tuning
where are you located. maybe someone can hook you up with a tune. price vary alot dependant on where you are. but you can get a good tune for not alot of smak in some areas....

You must retune for the truck MAF, you must trust SLP
and that 10-cent resistor for theirs.
SLP's MAF -is- a truck MAF, plus the 10 cents. Well,
they do throw in half of a Fernco hose, and an adaptor
pigtail too. Now of course they have two versions of
their MAF, which are different in the resistor value hence
calibration.

Now, SLP gives you no MAF cal data to work from, while a
truck or Z06 MAF is a known quantity that you can pick
out from any appropriate repository tune file.
Cheap + right = smart. Expensive + "trust me" = dumb.
