Default Anybody keeping a 10 bolt alive???

I have a SS m6, full exhaust, 4:10 gears, bolt ons, tune, LS7 clutch, LS6 intake, performance built trans, and drag radials. I'm afraid of the consequences of givin her hell from a dig, not sure if my concerns are warranted though. Recently came across a axle tube brace kit made by LPW that uses turn buckle type rods attached to the girdle cover and extend to welded brackets on the tubes to prevent deflection.
http://www.lpwracing.com/p_axletubebrace.asp
A. Was wondering if anyone has or knows of this setup and it's effectiveness?
B. Is anyone having good luck with keeping their 10 bolt alive with a similar setup to mine, if so, what's your rig and your time slips??

I have never seen that setup before will it even clear a pah hard bar setup? If your that worried about tube twisting and defection just weld the tubes into the center section, all 10 bolts die it is just part of their nature they are just too small of components. Seeing that you already have drag radials I am sure the downward spiral of its lifespan has already started.

The gears will kill it. Too much torque with 4 series gears. I ran 7 years on the stock 10 bolt. i used stock 3:42's, Red Line shock proof oil, a cover with main studs, and it was an auto. i never sprayed out of the hole. The set up you have braces the axels it might help. Don't wheel hop the car that will kill one dead!!! PERIOD. I had a 92 Camaro with a built 350 TPI it would chunk teeth the afteer market gear sets. Massive torque out of the hole. My 99 finally broke the stock carrier. Why, wheel hop. On my 92 car i broke some teeth on the gear set we pushed the car off the track. I drove about 5 miles back to the motel I was staying in. ( out of town race)When we had to stop and it was on the broken part of the ring gear we had to get out and push the car till the ring gear meshed back with the pinnion. then we were good to go RRR then clunck rrr clunck it was funny watching pepole look at us. On my 99 we pushed it off the track looked under the car saw no leaks so off we went back to the pit. Again you should have seen the looks people gave us. If you are running the 10 bolt sign up for AAA

I am just trying to get creative (affordable) with making my stock axle and keep it alive without upgrading. I found out about that LPW setup and thought it might be worth a try, it's not too pricey to give it a shot. My car is a daily driver, hasn't seen the track yet cuz of the 10 bolt. I want to do heads/cam soon instead of dropping $2K on a damn rear end.

no amount of braceing/cover will replace a week small rear(7.62 10 bolt).i would not waste money on 10 bolt.

The driver of an M6 determines how long the 10 bolt will last.

true about m6 driving habits.but to get most out of m6 you need to use the rear end(abuse it).10 bolt wont let you run your m6 all out with out killing it.

That's the trueth right there.

Mine is still holding on - 3.73 motive gears, MAC cover/support, factory zexel (ick), welded tubes, welded LCA relocation brackets, Royal Purple, and set up very well.

I NEVER dump the clutch out of the hole. It kills the 60's (usually in the 1.7x range), but my M6 car has seen over 127mph in the 1/4 so far.

The 60's suck, and it's frustrating to see a MPH like I have and yet still not be in the 10s, but until I save the $$$ for an aftermarket rear, this is what I have to live with. I'm not complaining though, I have seen 13 sec M6 cars bust their rear ends trying to get too much out of the lauch

The only problems i ever had wit stock rear is i would break posi units! I did multiple 1.52 60fts (wit a auto) wit 3.73 gears (a full years worth of passes) If they make a spool that would help matters alot and maybe... the mikronited gear sets... i've never used but that would help some also! But still they will never be as strong as 8.8, 12bolts, or 9in!

Come on, I know people are making power (up to 500rwhp) with a 10 bolt that has been successful. I believe it can be done....

i have seen a lot of carriers granade, some ring gear bolts shear, ring and pinon teeth break, bearings fail. But I have never seen an axle tube bend off. The Lower Control Arm mounts are so close to the wheel hub.

sorry to break it to you but the 10bolt is a ticking bomb everytime you smash it people have seen luck with 10bolts because of moser axles other than that if it has spider gears its going to blow. Had a eaton posi locker with moser axles for 10 months with 125shot cam only with nitto drags and the day I stepped up to a 150shot boom clunk clunk. Its what I like to say ITS THE NATURE OF THE BEAST. Point is you will never know your 10bolt is gonna go until one day it hooks **** and then you hear boom clunk clunk.... 10bolt
