Default v6 in 98-02 firebird?

I figured if i was gonna ask a dumb question id ask in the newbie area. Is there such a thing as a 98-02 v6 trans am? I had always thought that a trans am was equal to a z28 and a ws6 was like super sport. if thats true it would mean that they all have v8s? I ask because the other day i raced one on the street and stomped it and my buddy said it was a v6.

NO Transams had v6's. Someone could have switched the rear hatch front bumper side moldings ect.

All 98-02 trans ams are LS1 powered.

Someone could have taken a 98-02 V6 firebird and put a trans am hatch on it, and front bumper. I've seen a few V6 birds with a trans am hatch, but so far none with a trans am front bumper.

im guessing if you are asking this you dont know the difference between a trans am and a firebird anyway, but firebirds have v6s, "firebird" formulas, and "firebird" trans ams have v8s

You guys think the OP's post is a "newb" kind of question...

I took my car into to get an alignment done about a year ago and the mechanic asked me if my car was ever a v6 car just because its not a WS6. I tried to explain to him that just because there's no WS6 badges doesn't mean it started life as a 6 cylinder. Than after he starts shoveling his foot further and further down his throat, he swears that his brother had one and that ALL the WS6s came with the LS2 motor. Tried as I might, it just wasn't sinking in that the LS2 didn't even see production until 3 years after the 4th gen F-body's ceased production.

Needless to say I don't got to that shop anymore.

ha. he didnt have exhaust.. I do. And that combined with the fact that i was smoking him, thus only being able to hear my exhaust... there was no way for me to actually hear his car.
