Default catch can on t56?

anyone done this? everytime i spray my car it pushes fluid out of the breather tube. on the track it does it bad enough to get it all over the tranny and cross member. anyone put a catch can on one to avoid this? #1 it makes a friggin mess i have to clean off the next day. #2 im afraid if it does it bad enough its going to get it on the tires one day and im going to play bumper cars with the wall.

You probably cracked the breather line right where it attaches to the steel elbow. If its cracked, replace it with a rubber line and reattach the pop off valve to the end of it.

You shouldn't be pushing fluid out of a manual transmission, something is not right.

Either the vent tube is defective and allowing fluid to escape, or your transmission is way overfilled with fluid. Check the breather for damage, and pull the fill plug on the trans and see what comes out. If fluid pours out, it is overfull. It should just dribble out of the fill hole when the car is on a level surface, that means the correct amount of fluid is in the trans.

I can't say I have ever seen a properly filled unit do that. Thats a long way to travel up the tube and leak out of the valve.

That vent tube is in a location that should not be getting a lot of fluid to it to begin with. Installing a baffle should not be needed but I'm not saying it won't help.

i have also noticed some slight residue coming up thru the shift boot. again i dont know how it could be overfull since i filled it on the side plug but ill check it again. as a matter of fact there was a little bit on my ash tray lid the last time as i had it open when i raced to use the nitrous buttons.

The light fluid might be foaming or sloshing really bad on the launch forcing its way up the tube. A heavier oil would help if thats the issue. Good luck with everything.

You can't really switch to anything "heavier". All the internal clearances and friction materials are designed to work only with ATF.

This is not a common issue at all, so I'd rule out the fluid being a problem, unless he was running something other than Dexron III ATF.

I run royal purple synchromax in my T56. Its a little thicker than standard Dexron. Also if you are hot lapping the car it could be getting hot expanding the fluid and/or aerating the fluid causing it to take up more space there for sloshing towards the back on hard launches forcing it up the vent tube.
