Default Finaly got to drive my Tick Shift Faceplated T56

Picked up my car today...

Veeery interesting lol

All I can say is, you have to be a total jerkoff to miss a gear with this trans.

I love it, can't say thanks enough to Joey Anderson, Johnathan and Johnnie Atkins for an awesome transmission. Tick sure seems to be the place for your T56 needs. Along with the Tick MC this is the most positive feeling shifting I have ever felt.

I have not had a chance to get on it and test its 7000+RPM shifting prowess because everytime I tried to go to WOT a strange cloud of tire smoke would appear behind me... oddest thing... Hmmm

I did drive it around quite a bit today, lots of stop and go traffic, downshifting, upshifting, does it all with ease. Anyone that says a Faceplated transmission is not cool on the street is full of poop! The GF found the gear changes a little scary at first as the transmission definatly lets you know you found the next gear. Downshifts take some getting used to but within a few miles it was nice and smooth.

Once again, thank you to the guys at Tick for a KILLER trans! I can't wait to get it to the track and I will be sure to post some in car video of the passes.

Thanks TICK!

They say do not expect to drive 30K miles with it on the street... but I drive about 3-4K a year, so it should be just fine for a few years. Might have to take it out every year or two to de0burr the gears. But I still have my stock trans sitting in the garage, so the car will not be down.

I run a CARTEK Clutch.

Drivability is a very fine line. Most shops do not recommend them on the street to cover their own butts. If you were to advertise it as street friendly, people would buy, install it, hate it and want to return it on the shops dime. I personally do not recommend them to my customers unless its a pure track car for this very reason.

ya, do a camra mount like I did. put it up on the hoop in the Ttop area looking at the dash/pedals in fornt of the car (mine didn't look out down the track, but think you can;t get your legs the pedal, and in front of the car much, with a normal lens) daytime cruise is fine, one guy had one in a FC rx7 swap I htink it was. it was cool to watch

I don't think I can get it on the main hoop. I have a very nice Camera mount but the main hoop of the bar is way up against the ceiling liner. Its impossible to get anything in there. I can mount it to the cross bar and try to get it to be up as high as possible. Ill try to do it sometime this week perhaps.

he is a vid of one of my pathetic passes. I was shifting about as slow as possible with a faceplated trans. I put a pistol grip **** on and couldn't make a full pass because of the ****. I was pushing the shift to far right and missing 3rd. Then misshifted 4th.
Taner had warned me about the piston grip.
I later changed back to the stock **** and all is good.

Honestly, by the time I reached the Parkway from CARTEK [about 2.5miles] I was perfectly fine with it.

The 1-2-3-4 shifts are hard to describe. There is no longer that slight tight feeling before the shifter is fully in the gate. Once agian, really dificult to describe. But normaly there is a slight increase in pressure as you move the shifter into the gate, I am buessing tis from the syncro. The then normaly after an increase in pressure the trans finds the gate and pops in. This feels totaly different. With only the slightest pressure ont he shifter, it almost pulls itslef into the next gear. There is a destict metal on metal noise, obviosly from the lack of a syncro lol. With the Pro 5.0 there is a VERY positive feel. There is no way you can miss a gear with this if the clutch is working, and there is no more ambiguity, you KNOW you are in the gear. The faster you move the shifter, the smoother the gear change.

Occasionaly, at a full stop, in order to get into 1st, you have to slightly ease up on the clutch to align the engagement teeth and you will get a slight bang. [This is what scares the **** out of the GF]

Downshifting is a different story. If you **** up, the transmission sounds like a tree grinder! lol What I have found works, is simply double clutching. I clutch to get the car out of gear, release the clutc, blip the throttle to spin up the imput shaft, clutch and shift. So far I do it right about 75% of the time. A few times you will get a bang or some grinding, but it ALWAYS goes into gear.

I can't prommis a video today, but I will try this week. I will just drive around the neighborhood, no music, so you can hear the trans. I warn in advance, the whine you will hear is the 12-bolt, not the trans. lol

there are a few tricks. 1 is not to pop the trans out of gear when rolling up to a stop.
another thing if you are stopped with the clutch out then need to move quickly throw it into 5th then back to 1st. the syncro'ed 5th will stop the trans
in that vid of me the whine is also the 12 bolt. not the trans

if your not double clutching there is no granny shifting.
just yank the shifter as fast as you can.
