Stripped and Polished My 97 WS6 Wheels Results w/Pics!
Some of you may have already seen this done before I got this Idea off of a few other members on here,I liked their results so I decided to do it myself. The whole process took me about 5 hours taking my time eating lunch,BSing and while I was waiting for the Stripper to cure I decided to paint my calipers,LoL.Below I added some before and after pics and a list of what I used.Thank for looking!!
Please Excuse my picture taking skills,My camera is like 5 years old!!
Here is what I used
Tal-Stripp II Air craft coating remover (Apply with brush and let cure for 30-45 mins,I did 2 coats)
Safety Gloves and Ventilation mask Just incase (You def. Need the gloves that craps burns like no other!!)
Cheap paint brushes from Wal Mart
Mothers Powerball
Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish
Mothers Chrome Polish
I also used Dupli Color Engine Enamel For my Calipers they came out awesome that stuff lays down think and smooth!!
Now for the pics!!
Supplies
Before I started,My wheels werent horrible but you can tell in the last pics they are def alot shinnier!!
Some close ups of the clear already peeling and stained before I Started
While the stripper was curing
While I Was at it I decided to do the inside of the wheels,It worked pretty well, took all the brake dust off*NOTE I learned the hard way this stuff eats the glue of off the wheel weights so now I have to have them rebalanced so beware!!
Here is a shot of them fresh after the stripper was removed
And here is the final product,I got lazy after a few hours so they dont look the best,so Im gonna really lay into them this weekend with some more polish
Hope this helps anyone thinking of doing this,It cost about $50 and a few hours of my time I think it was def worth it though. They almost look chrome now!!Cant wait to get them on and was the car!!Pics to follow.Thanx for the informative write from the original Poster.Have a good day

I heard that once the clear coat is removed, the wheels need to be polished just about weekly to not look bad... any thoughts anyone? I want to do this bc my clearcoat on the wheels is just nasty!

That's what I was wondering. It seems they would be much higher maintenance. I can remember friends with awesome aluminum wheels but it took a lot of work to get them there as where I could just spray off my chrome ones. Either way, those look awesome!
