Default T-Top Refinishing/Re-tinting

I'm not sure if this is the right forum. I'm torn between whether it's detailing or body work (sice the t-tops are part of the roof). I settled on detailing...

One of my t-tops is pretty scratched on the outside. I can see that it's scratched right through the tinted film.

How do I go about refinishing them?

Can I apply regular automotive tint over the existing tint or do I need to remove that tint first?

Is it even regular automotive tint or is it something special?

Thanks,

Steve

NO!!!! Do not put tint on them. They will literally crack and explode, just like a sunroof with tint.(Thats what my tinter at work just said)

I had my tinted... Its only been a few months and no issues. The car rarely ever sits out in the sun though. Maybe 10-15 days a year will it sit in direct sunlight for more than 4 hours.

Why would they crack/explode?

I read another thread on here where someone said they would crack. It has to do with heat getting trapped.

The rest of the thread was people saying they had theirs tinted and they loved it.

As far as I can tell none have ever actually cracked it's just a couple tint guys that said it would. It has to do with the amount of heat they let escape.

Did you have them tinted on the exterior? That's the most important part of my question.

Thanks,

Steve

I've personally seen a sunroof do it, 3 days after being tinted, but my tinter said it is due to the heat being trapped between the glass and the tint, with the sun beating down, and having no where to go. Since heat rises, preasure on it builds and boom.

Sorry, he is wrong. I've had mine tinted for 6 years. Summer temps reach up to 110 here.

Well that was a sunroof, not a t-top. Guess there is a difference btwn them. I'd talk to another tinter...
