Default Oil Filer Adapter Keeps Breaking

I just bought a wrecked 1990 silverado 1500 with 5.7L engine. The problem I am having is if you rev the engine at all the oil filter adapter cracks which causes the seal on the oil filter to break making quite a nice mess in my shop. I have replaced the adapter twice so far with the same results. Everyone I have talked to is completely stumped as to what could be causing this. Oil pressure according to the in dash guage is 30 psi at idle and around 40 psi when it breaks. A friend of mine is a mechanic and is going to borrow the shops live guage to confirm this, although i would think the filter would split before breaking the adapter. Here is the picture of both broken adapters.

Stop using an impact to install them.

LOL, looks like you overtightened them.

You are tightening the oil filters by hand and not a band wrench right?

.

Are you absolutely sure they are sitting flush.
That is definitely a weird deal you got going on there.
Worse comes to worse you may have to get a billet style??

Yes it is coming up flush my girlfriends dad suggested that the gasket could be bad causing it to no longer sit flush, but yes it is very weird

Hmmmm interesting idea, our local machine shop was basically stumped. Worth a shot on the upside we are getting them from said machine shop pretty cheap.

Well just took it out for a test run in the field and the adapter seems to be holding up quite nicely after a few redline wheel spinning passes. Oh and put it on with out the gasket, not sure if thats what solved the problem but seems to work out, thanks for the help 89.

Not sure why they put gaskets in rebuild kits that were never in the engine to begin with.

As a general rule, never use a gasket under the oil filter adapter, the oil pump to main cap or the oil pump cover plate. These cause nothing but problems as you have found.

Oh, so there was no factory gasket there, that is interesting the engine was supposedly rebuilt by the PO before the truck was wrecked, I guess that gasket is semi proof, thanks for the info!!
