Default My motor issues are figured out!

During testing 3 weeks ago and at the shootout, @15psi. the motor would not want to to rev, like it did @7psi. and when I turned the boost up to 20psi. the car would lose appx. 15mph. Well today I took a valve spring off the motor and over to my engine builder and come to find out the spring seat pressure is only 120lbs. and the open pressure is only 350lbs. @.650lift.
Needeless to say the valves were definatly floating. My engine builder hooked me up some some new springs they had in stock. Now my seat pressure will be 200lbs. and open pressure will be 670lbs@ .650lift! These will be on the borderline for the hydralic roller lifters. Once again, the setup should make some more power!

So what springs did you have before and what kind did he set you up with, im going to be running close to the same boost and id perfer to get the right ones before the motor is done.

I had used the double springs that came with the heads from ETP. Craig had told me not to use them, but I wanted to atleast give them a try. Needless to say he was correct. My new springs may be different from from what you would get, due to the actual diameter of the spring. My heads have been machined to hold larger diameter springs.

670 open on a hydraulic tappet - not sure that is going to work too well.

Be sure and let us know.

You are correct. Once we installed the springs , at installed heght the pressures went way up. So we got another set of springs from Comp Cams and now my pressures at installed height are 180seat and 550 open. What a difference the springs made. No problem hitting the rev limiter now. Going back to the track this weekend for more tuning.

Had simular issues a year or so ago and installed 200/500 springs and they fixed a whole lot. Good luck on your progress looks good so far.
