need help-what cam
hey, i still havnt decided on a cam yet. i have a 2001 z28 with bolt-ons and an M6 with 4:10's. i will probably do heads in the future, something like prc 5.3's but be cam only for a while. i want it to wind to about 6500-6800 rpm's. i daily drive the car but prob. only put on about 50 miles a week(i live close to work). i really like the sound of a lumpy cam, so im fine with a big lift, low lsa cam. an i want the most torque i can at low rpm's while still making 400+whp. i know that there is no cam that matches all these, but what would you guys recomend for a cam?
thanks

With you already having 4.10 gears it helps out in choosing a good cam. One cam that comes to mind with still having low end torque is the Polluter cam. A few others out there are the MS4 and T-rex. All of them are big cams, just be sure you want something that big because drivability will be a concern.

im really not worried about drivability, because i dont drive much, and will prob be getting a DD beater soon. btw how does it effect the drivability? and i heard that the ms4 doesnt have good low down torque so i was kinda worried about that, idk if i should be

The G5X3 is a really good cam. You might consider the Vengeance racing Vindicator cam also if you are looking at big cams. If it is a daily driver I would personally go with a smaller cam. Something in the 230's duration. I had a TR 230/236 in my 02 SS and it was a good all around cam. It was streetable and still made 440rwhp through a 9" rear.

I am new to the ls1 crowd but not new to the car scene, don't make the same mistake as others and buy the biggest cam just for sound.there are many cams out there that have a choppy idle and still have good driveability.you want a cam that has a nice broad power curve for the street, not just a high rpm screamer.
I personally have a tr230-236 in a 6speed car with 4.10 gears and really love it.i would not want to lose any more low end just to have a choppier idle. This cam pulls very hard in the mid range and drives pretty well on the street.
If i was daily driving this car i would probably be looking at the 224 range for the best street manners, but the tr230 sure sounds good with the cutout open. Just my.02$ for what it's worth. Good luck.

Go with something in the low 220s for stockish torque and great around town power with good top end pull to 6000+. Or maybe go low 230s at most for a sacrificed low end but retain some midrange and a really good top end pull. Dont get suckered into the "biggest cam available is the best thing in the world" thing. Some guy will pull up next to you with his pissy *** tr-224 and mop the floor with you and your MS4. Its true

IMO, a low 220s cam in an M6 with gears pulls anywhere and everywhere, I have ridden in a F14 car (M6/gears) and midrange wasnt impressive to me but top end was great. Torquer V3 (M6/gears) has pretty impressive midrange and great top end as well. BTW, I have lots of friends with M6s
