Default Friend charged with street racing(They weren't)

So, we were coming back from the bar, going down Stone Oak parkway to a friends house. I was riding in the turbo Porche 911, friend was in his SRT-8. At no point were the guys side by side, but they were definitely speeding(80ish in a 55 I think it was?) The SRT-8 was following the Porche. Well, cops pulled em over, gave a sobriety test, and both passed.. but he arrested both of them, and impounded the cars for "Street Racing".

Pretty fucked up. Is it just that easy for them to say "Racing!" and you're screwed? How will it hold up in court, anyone with any experiences?

I think with our cars it's alot harder to say you weren't racing, so who knows..

IMO your friends are screwed. Its your friends word against the cop. Good luck with it though.

that's shitty. I'd get a lawyer, and request a video of the racing perhaps? b/c if they can't prove it, chances are you can get that lowered to something less severe I'd imagine...but i'm not a lawyer, idk.

Yeah, it's just a pretty serious offense to be called on, and not having done. Luckily I was a passenger, and they let me get a ride home(random girl I met at the bar, no bullshit haha). One of them is a close friend, so I hope he can get it reduced to speeding.

They also let me **** on the side of the road, which I thought was hilarious. I was like "Uh.. are you sure... is this a trap? Pulling out your ***** within 10 feet of a cop usually isn't a good idea"

lol. That's funny. However usually when they throw the book at you and dont have substantial proof, you can get it lowered in court. I was charged with wreckless op (4 pt violation) for peeling out and speeding...and simply by meeting with someone at the court I got it reduced to 2pt "reasonable control". Cops like to throw their power around, just gotta keep a level head and explain the situation. I told the guy at my hearing, if I had been doing 100mph swerving in traffic, that'd be dangerous and wreckless....i was peeling out in the middle of nowhere with complete control of my vehicle. Not to mention, if I had been WOT for over 9 seconds like the officer stated, i'd have been doing well over the mph he clocked me at.

****, they are screwed. same **** happened to me (sort of) and a buddy. 6 court dates later with a good lawyer, and it was dropped. Will still cost you lawyer fees and court fees though.

Regardless, it's gonna cost them some $$$. Get a good lawyer maybe they can bump down the charge. What did they charge them with, class b or c misdemenor?
