Safe cam mileage?

Default Safe cam mileage?

I am looking at getting a 224/228 mamo cam which has a supposed 20k miles on it. Lobes look fine, but I want to know how long a performance cam will last.

Would you run it?????

That would make a nice mid sized cam with good street manners. Just make sure the lobes aren't scarred or chipped. Go ahead and replace the lifters while your at it for added insurance when you change the pushrods.

As long as the lobes looks good and down have any pitting or show any signs of wear, you should be good to go. It's a good idea to replace lifters but it you aren't wanting to pull the heads off, you shouldn't have an issue running your factory lifters. Let me know if you need anything to go along with it and I'll get you fixed up. We have everything for a cam install including springs, pushrods, oil pumps, timing chains, and gaskets for a complete install!

Ok Thanks for the replies. One more question, with this he is giving me 918's with the same mileage.

New springs or are these ok too?

BUY NEW SPRINGS!!!!!! I just swapped in a cam not too long ago and put in a set of used 918's that only had maybe 1000 miles on them supposedly and #8 intake spring was weak apparently, locks fell out at about 5200 rpm and went somewhere.....you know the rest....

So unless you feel like a rebuild soon I would buy new ones

I agree. New springs. I would go with PAC 1518's if it were my car.

Personally, I would just go new. I mean were talking about motor internals. That way if something goes wrong, you wont be saying I wonder if its the used....

All used springs should have the pressure checked, but like said, I'd just buy new.

I would go new. You can check the springs and if the pressures look good you can use them again. However, that is a decent amount of miles on that spring. I would put on a new set of Comp 918's or you can go with a PAC 1218 spring and be fine. We have both on the shelf as well. Let me know if we can help!

I scrapped the 224 cam idea and decided to go for a lower mile setup. I have been to the Texas-Speed website many times and have decided that I will go with a heads/cam package from there probably. Thanks for the info guys, and I figured 20k was a lot on a performance setup.

Just an FYI... If there weren't any nicks/gouges or anything else that looked bad the cam was fine.. being a hydraulic roller cam they don't get big amounts of ware. Nice choice for what you're going to do now though!
